Kinsis sits on the top of the ketch, looking out over the scenery before him; a lush forest, trees tipped with snow and reflecting the oranges and pinks of the sunset.
It was beautiful here, but they would probably have to move again soon. Sevoriks had been so paranoid, the Kell ordering their location to move way more often than it had before. But after that attack, Kinsis couldn't blame him. After the loses they'd suffered. After the pain they'd endured.
The eliksni breathed in deeply, taking in a long breath of ether-filled air through his sharp-toothed mouth. There were no signs of any lightbearers here, but that didn't mean they wouldn't come. The Guardians scattered around this planet like a plague, searching every nook and cranny for a taste of eliksni blood. The forever-aching scars on Kinsis' body proved that. Even those who don't wish lightbearers harm are targets.
Kinsis is too young to know firsthand how things Used To Be, but the stories and songs tell of the time before this solar system. When the eliksni had their own stars, when they had their own homes, their own paradise.
Now, they fought every day to even survive as a species on some chunks of rock that the Guadians of the Great Machine considered theirs.
But why was Earth theirs? Why were any of these planets theirs?
Kinsis knew no home besides Earth. His children, born onto this planet as well. What made this planet belong to the lightbearers any more than it belonged to Kinsis' family?
He could not make excuses for some of his species' actions. But the lightbearers were no better as a group.
The Guardians, who slaughtered Kells, who attacked with fire and darkness and lightning, who gave the eliksni every reason to hate them back and want to destroy them. Ā The Guardians, who sarcastically named them Fallen, when they were light-filled shells of war, risen from the dead.
His chest twisted with a strange sense of spite as he thought. The Guardians who attacked his family for existing, and took one of his sons away when Scars wanted nothing but to survive.
They would probably come again, despite their attempts at hiding. He dreamed about it. Dreamed about the Guardian's hellfire taking the rest of his family away.
Kinsis breathes out, shakily, trying to calm down.
It just doesnāt feel like there was any hope that things would ever get better for their kind.
I donāt know if the community is really as dead as my dash implies, or if I just donāt follow the people who are in the community actively rn
devil-exile:
Valiksis entered slowly once she knew she had his attention. In the slightly dim lighting, she could make out the scars that were forming on his face and she felt so bad. Kinsis was the last person sheād ever want to see suffer, physically or mentally. Her eyes flicked down to the various whelps resting in their nests, and she spotted her twins in the back corner, curled up together, unharmed for the most part, and for that she was glad.
She eventually turned her attention back to Kinsis, though, and her eyes softened as she stood in front of him.
āNo, nothing is wrong.ā She said, keeping her voice quiet so she didnāt disturb the whelps. āI just came to see how you were doing.ā
She knew the agony of losing a loved one to the wrath of the guardians. She remembered how much grief sheād gone through those first few weeks after Halsis was killed. Sheād blamed herself most of that time. Maybe if she hadnāt been so weak, if she hadnāt run away, maybe she would have been able to fight off the guardians back then, together. But it was too late for regrets now, and she wanted to help Kinsis through this as much as she could. She wanted to make sure he didnāt suffer alone as she did before.
She let her primary hands fold loosely across her chest as she looked at him, a softness in her eyes that she harbored for only a few members of the House so far. āIt has been a while since we got to just sit down and talk together. I was wondering if you had the time, if youāre not busy of course.ā
Any hint of worry dissolved away when she said that nothing was wrong and Kinsis came to stand up a bit straighter, tilting his head curiously when she went on to suggest that they talk. A small sparkle came into his eyes, glad for the chance of good company and a distraction.
But, pausing, he cast a quick glance backwards. There were others, there, watching over the whelps, and it was quiet now. It wouldn't hurt if he slipped away for a moment to catch up with an old friend. When he looked back at Valiksis, his head nodded. "Yes, of course. It's Ā quiet time, so I can slip away for a while without it causing too much chaos."
His words were a quiet attempt at a joke, knowing how rowdy a room full of eliksni whelps could be, learning how to bite and climb. "Let's take a walk, if that's okay with you? Maybe by the time we get back, your twins will be awake, too."
@scarsbyfate
It was all such a disaster, and nobody could have seen it coming, really. It was a rule that guardians were to be treated with a kind of respect, but also caution, and even after her twins were born and began to grow, Valiksis still had trouble putting all of her faith into that rule. Of course she was biased mainly because it was guardians that had killed her mate and forced her to suffer by herself as she tried to survive on her own. That was before Scars took her in and made sure she was somewhat healthy by the time Helsis and Eskis were born.
The attack itself was devastating, though. But she wasnāt all too surprised that the Light-stealers would stoop this low. She pulled her weight as best she could in the wake of the attack, and she counted her blessings that she didnāt lose anyone she couldnāt live without. But Kinsis had come close, dreadfully so, and sheād wanted to visit him, but for the first several days, she tasked herself with helping the wounded, for she was one of the lucky few that didnāt get badly hurt.
Eventually, a few weeks had passed, and while Valiksis was exhausted most of the time, she felt better knowing that their House was recovering. But, sheād heard that a few would never return, one of those being one of Kinsisā children, and sheād felt a stab of grief when she heard the news. It was then that she decided to go see him, and she promptly headed for the Nursery, where heād surely be - or so she hoped.
By now, she knew she was always welcome there, and so she didnāt bother knocking when she entered the passcode and waited for the door to open. Once it was, she peeked her head inside, and muttered.
āKinsis⦠are you in here?ā
It had taken a long time for Kinsis to begin to recover physcially, but emotionally... it wasn't even close. Even weeks after the attack, even after he'd been cleared my Salrin to go back to duties, his chest ached constantly. He tried his hardest to go back to taking care of the whelps, one of the few things he enjoyed, but the spark of seeing their little faces was dimmed. He loved the children of the House -- his own as well as the others. But he couldn't help but wonder as he played with the growing whelps... would they be next?
He was looking down at Kharsis, watching his youngest child sleep peacefully in the nest. Things were quiet, most of the whelps napping in that moment, and it gave him time to think. Which turned into worrying, and then a slight panic. Kharsis had already begun to grow into a strong little child, caught Sevoriks' eye. Valoris, too -- he already wanted to be a warrior. Primes, he felt his heart clench just thinking about either of them ever being in danger. He couldn't--
His swirling thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his name being called from the doorway. There was a flood of relief when he recognized the voice, a familiar one belonging to Valiksis. A distraction from his own thoughts. Glancing down at Kharsis one last time, he turned, and replied. "I'm over here."
But his voice was quiet, and he wasn't sure if it carried well, so he soon pushed away from his daughter's nest and towards the doorway where he stopped in front of her. He tried to put on a gentle look for her, but his eyes held tiredness, his face visibly scarred and still healing in places. He looked like he'd been through hell and back.
"Hello, Valiksis." He said. "Nothing's wrong, I hope?" She didn't seem to be worried or frantic, which was good. But he was curious as to why she was seeking him out.
āIām telling you, Mothriks!! Sevoriks just!!!ā¦never!!!ā¦listens to me!!!ā
been thinking about our eliksni ocs today
scarfallen:
Aksus was in a hurry, and hadnāt noticed the ether leaking from the wound in his leg. He also wasnāt about to be stopped by the worrier of the Ketch. He addressed her as he avoided her gaze, and attempted to pass her in the hallway.
āNot now Salrin, please. I must see the Kell.ā
She tried to move with him, continuing to block the Captain. He may be stubborn, but she was, too.Ā āWhatever emergency there is can be passed through a messenger.ā The medic said to him.Ā āAn untreated leg injury can mean permanent damage. Do you want to be a weakness to your house?ā
Salrin was a bit dramatic with that, but the point was still given.
@scarfallen
āYou!ā Salrinās voice was sharp as she addressed the Captain, coming to wedge herself in between his path. Even though he was larger than her, she looked up at him without being afraid, primary hands resting on her hips.Ā āDid I just see you limping? Why havenāt you come to the medical bay?ā
looking for threads w/
Salrin; my bitter little medic with an affinity for poison. can speak english enough to communicate, but itās a bit broken and she may have a hard time understanding lots of words
Triksin; my big olā captain, sheās partially mute and can barely speak her own language, so she canāt communicate with guardians past sounds -- stealth specialist, can be scary as fuck
Field Research: Eliksni āHairā
This is probably going to seem somewhat random, I guess. But I spend a lot of time on Destiny just jumping around and looking at things through my sniper rifle. This is something Iāve thought about for a while ā and Iād like to say ā this is NOT aimed towards anyone in particular or meant to make anyone feel bad!!
But to cut right to the chase ā I donāt think Eliksni have hair.
It seems pretty commonly accepted, which is why Iām saying this is not aimed towards a specific person/people. Almost every artist that Iāve seen doing eliksni seems to adopt the mohawk-like hair as standard.
Why?
Iām assuming that the hair headcanon came from the way a dreg looks ā the āhairā coming from their helmet. However, upon looking closely at the model and the texture of it, I have a hard time believing that itās hair at all.
If you look closely, the āhairā is very stiff and rigid, coming only from a dregās helmet. There is no sign of this on any other model of their kind as far as I can find.
There is always a chance that the higher ranks could shave/cut their hair, but Iām still inclined to think against it. I feel like there would be some kind of hint towards them having hair, even if it was covered. After all, vandals and variks have teeth hidden under their mouthpieces, even though itās not visible.
Basically, either:
They donāt have hair at all ā Then what is the thing on the dregās armor? Iām inclined to think itās more of a crest type thing, similar to the way the helm of saint-14 has bristles or various other helmets (I believe itās greek/roman in idea but I admit Iām not 100% sure).
Or, they do have hair ā but itās incredibly bristly and stiff, as opposed to human hair. It almost appears quill-like, if that is hair. So it probably wouldnāt be able to lay flat or flow like human hair does.
Conclusion:
I think that they dregs have misled us with their helmets, and that eliksni are secretly as bald as Zavala.
eliksni notes #2 Ā ā¦Ā intelligence / technology
Contrary to what a lot of the in-game NPCs seem to say, the Fallen, also known as Eliksni in their own language, are an incredibly intelligent species. Not originally from our system, they traveled from far away in search of the Traveler ā which they refer to as āThe Great Machineā. It is known that the traveler once visited them as it visited humanity, helping them reach their own Golden Age, but ultimately left them behind.
While their civilization collapsed in an event known as āThe Whirlwindā, the Eliksni still hold onto an impressive knowledge of technology. Their ships are capable of warping in and out of space, and though the distance of this is unknown for sure, it can be assumed that they could even travel out of the system (since they got here from their homes in the first place). They are capable of building and maintaining both Shanks and Servitors, the latter providing them with the ether that they need to breathe.
Before the Whirlwind, the Eliksniās civilization was massive, covering multiple star systems. Where they colonized, they had just about everything youād expect from an advanced civilization ā including cities and crops ā advanced enough to be referred to as āparadiseā in the grimoire. Before the Traveler left them, their civilization was more advanced than humanity was before their Collapse.
While their species has become rather scattered and small over the years, they still seem to retain a knack for technology. When the Devil Splicers discovered SIVA, they harnessed it fairly well. Not perfectly ā but unlike the Iron Lords who found it, they managed to use SIVA to aid them rather than to completely destroy them. While it may have been only a matter of time before it backfired, the Splicers showed remarkable ability to use it for their own benefit while they could.
Never underestimate the power of monsters and monster-like things nuzzling and pressing their heads/faces against each other to circumvent pesky issues like having huge fangly mouths making it impossible to kiss or Not Having a Mouth At All
While my muse for these characters is fickle with the current RP community, I still love the eliksni more than life itself and so Iām going to write some lore pieces about them.Ā
honestly Iāve always loved the idea of guardian/eliksni scandal romance but itās so hard to find partners for it
it doesnāt help that Iām terrified to be the one who asks for a ship because I donāt want people to feel pressured.......
apparently Shiro says ābug-huggersā in reference to guardians who like the eliksni
eliksni fuckers confirmed
