Yeah, I think that probably is his ‘bedroom.’ There has been some talk about how the blanket on the bed is the same as the one seen with Talia’s mother in the pit flashbacks, so that could mean that Bane and Talia salvaged some stuff from the pit and and the blanket signifies that either Bane or Talia (or both of them, for you Bane/Talia shippers) sleep there in the sewer. Personally, I think it is most likely that Bane sleeps there, as Talia has a cover life to maintain in Gotham. It is really hard to get a good, clear image of that scene because of the lighting, but if you watch it back you can see details like the bed, the blanket and the fancy teapot which do give the impression that Bane has set up a little comforting space for himself while he goes about his business. I’m sure there is some stuff to analyse about how jammed in the corner his space is, much like how it must have been for him in the pit…
As for the fire, way back in the early days of the blog I had an ask about what Bane was doing in that sewer scene (X). So my thinking about what he is doing with the fire is this:
My personal theory is that he uses some form of intravenous drip to deliver nutrition directly into his system, either through something like a jejunostomy feeding tube (ie feeding tube that goes directly to the small intestines) or using perhaps a specialised feeding tube valve built into his mask, so he can flip open the valve and shove a feeding tube down his throat. Given that we don’t really know what kind of damage he has under his mask, I’m more inclined to think he uses a feeding tube that goes directly to his stomach or intestines. His shirtlessness could be hinting at that too, or maybe it was just a chance to show off his awesomeness.
In that scene, I personally thought it was more likely he was preparing the raw/liquid form of the painkillers that are delivered through his mask. I’m a fan of the theory that the mask stores a highly concentrated painkiller in liquid form that gets converted to a gas as it moves through the mechanics of the mask. There was a fancy teapot in the background too, so it made me think maybe he was boiling water for drug-making or boiling the drug directly or something like that. But yeah, he could definitely also have been preparing (more likely finishing) some sort of feeding/drinking method too. Really his only options are the intravenous feeding, feeding tube through the mask, or a massive dose of painkillers to allow him a short period of time to remove his mask and stuff down some food and drink. The last option seems so unlikely though, because, like I said, we don’t know how fucked up he is under that mask. I’m definitely going with some sort of tube delivery system.
