would it be a lot to ask you to give a run-down on Thrawn? i know nothing
OMFG OKAY
So Thrawn is short for Mitth'raw'nuruodo, he’s a Chiss from the planet Csilla. Basically I won’t go into everything but what you need to know about him is that he used to be a Grand Admiral for the Empire and he’s INCREDIBLY smart, like this guy is the kinda guy that gets bored with chess because it’s child’s play, it’s too simple. He’s the greatest battle tactician the rebellion ever had to deal with and his propensity for finding and revealing spies hidden within the emperor’s ranks were unparalleled. He’s cunning and ruthless and while his greatest strength lies in mind games, he’s also a very capable soldier. He’s huge, towers over everybody (the upper end of the AVERAGE height for a Chiss male is 2.1 meters or 6’10, the dude is ENORMOUS) and he’s well trained in combat
Something you should also know about Thrawn is that he doesn’t really... have a stark loyalty to the empire in the way officers like Tarkin did. He’s a non-human and there was a very xenophobic sentiment attached to imperial rule, but Thrawn was very very loyal to a group called the Chiss Ascendecy. The Chiss’s homeworld is in the uncharted regions of the galaxy, and Thrawn knew the rising empire was powerful enough to eventually take over everything else, so he basically decided to join them to preemptively establish positive relations between the Chiss and the Empire, knowing they wouldn’t be satisfied with controlling the vast majority of the galaxy and would eventually want to take ALL of it. He is loyal to the Chiss and in order to protect his people, he volunteered to enlist in the Imperial Navy and he worked his way up from there
though, during the time period shown in the Mandalorian, I’m pretty positive Thrawn has canonically died like multiple times so I’m really not sure how they’re going to fit him in the post-Imperial era. All I know is he’s scary as fuck if you’re in his way and he’s very calm. Very in control of himself and perfectly willing to wait if waiting will benefit him. He quotes things you could find from Sun Tzu and he very much enjoys warfare. He’s also a unique villain in that he maintains a solid respect for the enemy. If you do somehow manage to outsmart him, he won’t undercut your win, and conversely, if he wins but he doesn’t feel like he really earned it, it makes him feel frustrated. He likes having opponents that can challenge him, it makes things more exciting for him. Basically he’s fucking lethal and you don’t want to be matched against him, that’s what you need to know about Thrawn
