It's hard to find 1D fans who aren't delusional as hell, so when I find them, it's an immediate follow! Your post about Nick Grimshaw was fantastic, bb. I identified with it so much, particularly about being a WOC in this fandom and being told my opinion isn't valid just because some 15 year old white girls want to be able to call each other "n***a" without anyone saying anything about how fucked up it is.
thank you so much! i'm glad it resonated with you and wasn't too incoherent bc i was worried that i wasn't making sense while typing it. for me, when i first got into this fandom, i tried to keep in mind that while i'm clearly not that old, i'm still technically older than the average 1D fan by a few years and that in addition to being a poc, my experiences are going to be largely different than most of the fans, but it just grosses me out how many of the fans think they can get away with that shit because it's "just slang" and "they don't mean it" and "they're just joking!!" because literally who gives a shit if you're joking if you're being offensive. that said, i think the thing that kills me most is that i've met plenty of people in this fandom who are also older than me and have no problem condoning the stupid shit in this fandom or that is said by 1d and their friends/family. i've noticed that a lot of older fans in particularly seemed to love nick/his crew and they've been noticeably silent about all of the shitty things he's done (which i can only chalk up to feigning ignorance so that they can continue to ship and stan without worrying about the implications of it) but yeah. i say all that to say that meeting people who don't completely suck in this fandom is like a legends of the hidden temple challenge so i appreciate the follow!
