A huge part of handwork, historically, is camaraderie between women. Mothers and daughters piecing quilts by candlelight in mid-winter. Friends mending, laughing, and sharing stories. Sometimes I need quiet concentrated effort during my stitching, but often the quality of my life is greatly enhanced by connection with other people through craft. I love that this opportunity to stitch together friendships now extends beyond gender boundaries, age, and even physical proximity (hello, IG!). But on days like today, when I'm feeling a little lonely for in-person friends, I call on my memories of mending on the porch overlooking @squamlove Squam Lake with my dear people @madebyrae, @megler and @circlestitches , among others, and that smile up there returns. If you are able, treat yourself to a crafting retreat. It's such amazing self care! #sewingisselfcare
