When I.....
....was a kid both of my parents had all day jobs. On Saturday my dad would have to go into work at like 6 a.m. so he would drop us off super early at my grandma's house. My grandparents are immigrants, so their English was not great. They didn't have cable, so after Saturday morning cartoons ended there was nothing to watch. They didn't really have toys or anything. It was an old persons house. But what my grandma did have was an incredible talent for sewing. So she would bring out this little tackle box that had all this thread and needles and patches of left over fabric and she would teach us how to do basic little sewing. Another weird little obsession I had, and still have, was an obsession with articulation in an action figure. I was not having any of this non ball joint shoulders in my action figures. Every joint better move, every finger is a mad bonus. So one thing I really liked was cloth toys. They used to have, in happy meals especially, these toys that had cloth bodies and hard plastic heads. They were the ultimate possible toy. So I had a ton of them. And because I have not changed in taste one bit since I was 8, I was obsessed with pro wrestling back then. So I would watch WCW Saturday morning wrestling and sit there with my clog body toys and they'd wrestle. During that time I started getting the idea that wrestlers had to have a gimmick. I didn't know he word gimmick, but I knew they needed to be flashy and flamboyant, I could infer that much from tv. So I would sit there with my little ten your old promoter mind and be thinking, "you know woody is cool, but this cowboy stuff is kinda out man. Try these flashy velvet pants". And I would literally make outfits for hear guys and have long running storylines between my small stuffed toys. I am almost in ever single way the exact same person I was then. It's insane. My grandma accidentally shaped my life.
