Sex Workers Matter

I don’t feel safe talking about this with anyone. Last year when I was alone for the first time in my adult life due to my hubby’s deployment, I researched a cuddle buddy through a site mixed with professionals, amateurs and seekers. I didn’t have the gall to actually reach out and make it happen, still I talked to a few people. I didn’t feel honest. I was scared. It would be cheating. It would be lying to my partner. So I asked him, how would he feel? He thought I was absolutely crazy for asking. He mentioned a massage as another option. Sure I could do that but I didn’t. I wanted someone to hold me, while watching TV or looking out at the water. I wanted someone to hug me and not pull away until I did. I wanted someone that really wanted me to be there and looked forward to seeing me. Sex workers matter. Cuddlers matter. Not everyone has a person they can say this to, or even ask. Even when you’re married sometimes sadly your person doesn’t get it. They don’t get how power touch is, it feels like life and death…sometimes.

Eyricka King is a Black trans woman targeted by antiBlack and transmisogynistic state violence. She is serving a 2 - 4 year sentence on a grand larceny charge and being sentenced for a bail jumping charge after a sex work client and the nypd worked together to incriminate her.
