Waiting Out the Storm The Critique: ICM, intentional camera movement, is used to emphasize the pouring rain where even under shelter an umbrella helps provide protection against the storm. Human figures attract the eye and provide a strong focal point. Tall columns rise from a reflective floor, strongly anchoring the photograph. Vertical lines along the left complete the frame within a frame. Muted colors add atmosphere to the dreary weather day. Textures enrich surfaces and add interest to the shot. Spatial relationships are clear. Framed The Critique: Perspective gives a dramatic sightline on the cyclist passing through the intersection. The red of the bike, along with the pull of a human figure, catch and hold my eye. The street markings join wonderful shadows in casting shapes and lines to move my eye through the frame. Nice focus gives rich details to elements near and far. I like the off kilter look with the dominant street lights leading diagonally into the scene. It throws off spatial relationships just enough to grab interest. The duality of the bike tires and rider double the focal point impact.
