San Francisco Day 2
This is probably the reason why I like staying at Fisherman's Wharf. They have bike rentals here and you can rent a bike and ride it through Presidio in the Golden Gate Bike Path to the Golden Gate Bridge. This would probably take you most of the day. I would also get off the beaten path and make a short detour to the Palace of Performing Arts. If riding isn't for you, take a drive on the Golden Gate Bridge and drive up to Battery Spencer. This is the best view, I think, from above of the Golden Gate Bridge. Please note, that when you drive back on the bridge to SF, you need a FasTrak. If you don't have one, they usually send for payment through the mail or if you're renting a car, the rental company will probably charge you. Or you can be proactive and pay online before they send you a bill! I'm sure there's a Muni that goes over the bridge but not sure if it's goes to Battery Spencer. From here, I would go through Presidio and then to the Palace of the Fine Arts. Whatever you decide, you can either do the Alcatraz or Cruise if you didn't do the previous day. If you have already done that you can change with going to Golden Gate Park. Check out the Japanese Tea Garden or the museums in the park. Drive down a little more and check out the Painted Ladies at Alamo Square. Drive down a little more, and check out the City Hall. End of day 2.
San Francisco Day 1
I tend to go to SF in the morning from Los Angeles whether driving or by plane. I usually get there around lunch time if I'm lucky. Since I've been there many times, I try to see new things which I'll probably post about in a later blog. However, if you haven't been to SF... Follow here: First stop, Ferry Building/Embarcadero. This place houses several markets and restaurants. Some of which are pretty good if your hungry. Take a stroll near the water and you can see the Bay Bridge from here. Take a walk or bus to Union Square. While passing by, you'll see the financial district. You can shop till you drop! It has a really big Macy's store. The corners of Union Square has the hearts of Sam Francisco that changes every season (I think ... It always some different design every time I go there). Shopping doesn't tickle your fancy? This place is close to SF's Chinatown! Check out the stores have some dumplings. Also, check out where the Chinese Fortune Cookies are made at Golden Gate Fortune Cookies. From here you can take the trolley up to Lombard St. I've never really like San Francisco hills. They're really steep! I prefer driving or taking the trolley. I prefer trolley more though just because driving on those hills aren't as great either. At Lombard street you have a view of almost every thing in SF if there's no fog. Across the way, you can see Coit Tower. (You may want to go there, it's not in this itinerary tho). I would recommend going down on Lombard Street just to get the bottom to up view of the winding street. From here, you can do two things depending on the time. Either walk back up to go the trolley (Hyde) and go to Ghirardelli Square and have their chocolate. OR Keep going down on Lombard till Taylor to get on the Taylor Trolley to go to Fisherman's Wharf. I really recommend the Blue and Gold Fleet Cruise. The cruise will take you to under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz (it doesn't stop there). Check out the times on their website (they also have discounted tickets on other websites). However, if it's too late you can do this on the second day or you can book a ticket to Alcatraz as another option. From here I would check out Pier 39. If you haven't already, check out Ghirardelli and then get to the hotel. End of Day 1.
