Stephen Fry In Central America: Episode 2
certe persone non le incontri per caso. Le incontri per sfiga.
Refraction showcases artists whose practices show an interest in bold and bright colors, complex materialities, reflective surfaces, and refractive light. Refraction is a process which re-directs waves, but acts as a challenge to faculties of perception, occasionally misleading or misdirecting us. While playing with visual perception, this exhibition aims to achieve a collaborative refraction, where viewers are directed and drawn in from piece to piece, from one medium to another, in a den of visual play. Collaborating artists include: Britt Acocelli, Nando Alvarez, Diedrick Brackens, Maria Guzman Capron, Megan Chunn, Susannah Dotson, Carlos Franco Maldanado, Lisa Jonas, Mary Ma, Nate Petterson, Megan Reed, Stephanie Rohlfs and Micah Wood. Curated by Emily Reynolds for SFiCA as part of BREAKOUT. Hosted by LoBoT.

Proximity, tactility, fidelity (in at least two senses), materiality, probably a couple other words that end in -ty, are all considerations of mine when creating this work. The ability* of a photograph to objectify the human form is played with here as these photographs become objects in their own right and through abstraction represent the body only in a symbolic and indirect way.

Lasley creates work through labour-intensive processes which can be seen explicitly as a personal exorcism ritual. His works are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete ages and situations as well as depictions and ideas that can only be realized in painting.
