ICON1000 Prep boots The proper footwear is the difference between a great ride and a decent one. The difference between a broken ankle and a sprained one. Between something you can walk off and surgery. For my current set of boots I was kind of dead set on something from ICON1000. I loved the design of their line, and I wanted to give them a try, and I thought a pair of their boots was a pretty good way to start. I was torn between the Prep Boot and the Elsinore, both in black. The Prep was new and sleek and interesting looking and the Elsinore was chunky and mean and tough, and both looked like solid choices. I had a chance to try on a pair of the Elsinores at SFmoto, and the fit was excellent, and even wearing them briefly was exactly what I expected from ICON, and that says a great deal. After a few days of bouncing back and forth between the Prep and the Elsinore, (and asking a number of people which they liked more) I picked the Prep boots, size 9. I ended up having to order my boots from Revzilla for $270 on May 14th, since no one in SF seemed to have them in stock. Revzilla had them to me in about a week, and I've worn them every day since then. These is my primary footwear for the motorcycle and I've even worn them with my jeans on occasion just because I like the way they feel. The traction from the sole is fantastic, and I don't notice the sole twisting at all. Since I got the boots the weather has been all over the place, and you know I'm not going to stop just because of high winds or terrible rain. For the last few big rainstorms, I noticed a slight bit of water penetrating the left boot at the stitching at the shifter panel. This may just be due to the amount of water the front tire throws back directly onto the shifter panel itself, or from the water thrown back from car tires at the same angle. I'm going to look at my options for waterproofing the panel from the outside, if there are any options. This didn't use to be an issue, and it may just be because I wear them so much. Pros: -Sturdy with fantastic level of protection -Fits the foot great, and very comfortable for long term wear -Easy to get on and off -Styling is awesome, and they just feel good on your foot. -They feel like a combat boot, which I consider to be a great compliment. -Traction is fantastic, and I've had no slipping issues. -Even though these are my daily boots, I haven't noticed any odor or funk Cons: -The zipper pull on each boot broke and had to be replaced. I have muscular calves, and I don't think the sizing of the boot reflects that. -The stitching over the left foot shifter panel lets in a tiny bit of water during heavy rain and water on the road. The takeaway: I love these boots, despite the faults. They're tough, they grip well, and I feel like they offer serious protection. I'm glad I bought them, and they've been a great improvement over just riding in steel-toe combat boots, which was what I was doing before this. If I were to buy another pair of ICON1000 boots, I'd probably get the Elsinore HP instead. I think the medial entry zipper would work better for me, and the side buckles would be a bit more adjustable for the size of my calves.
