OH MYGOD. OHMYGOD
IM. IM. OHMYGOD
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
Hello, I've actually talked about this particular au on my main blog before, but I thought I might as well do some further elaboration here. So, some stuff about Ineffable Spawn AU.
The basic premise of this AU is that the Swords are primal eldritch beings that have existed for as long as the Inpherno has, if not longer, and that they can create spawn with mortals + plus all mortals have innate eldritch forms that can be unlocked by repeated exposure to the eldritch. In general this AU takes a lot of calling cards from a horror podcast I'm really into called Malevolent (including the King In Yellow being a prominent character. Don't ask) and the works of Lovecraft, but isn't really a cross-over AU.
I guess I should start with some lore I suppose. So, the inpherno was created by the original old one, a being that is known only as Azathoth, or very, very occasionally as Linked Sword, as this was the gear it claimed. Azathoth made the inpherno, then each of the swords to rule over various primal elements across it. After many, many years, Azathoth created the spawns out of its own power, defined the lines that would become the factions, and bestowed each of these to its children, before it retreated into eternal slumber. Nobody, not even the gods, know of its whereabouts. And slowly, from the spawn, inphernals began to emerge, slowly building society - but within each of them dwelt a spark of their history with Azathoth, and from each of them a true power could be unleashed, and bonded with one of the old gods to produce a spawn. A being half-way between mortal and god, which would often become key members of the leadership of the growing regions and developing factions. In fact, the King in Yellow is one of these, creating and ruling over Darkage with an iron grip.
Other general worldbuilding stuff includes the fact that everything has a true name. All beings, all items, all objects have one - and to know something's true name is to control it, so many people are capable of commanding spawn by knowing their names (which is the case with Father Overseer and Scythe), or - in case of the eldritch specifically, owning a bone, horn or claw from their true form. Some beings are flippant with their true names, such as Ghostwalker or Memento Mori, or the previously mentioned Hastur (if yk yk)
There are also various sigils tied to the Watchers, the most prevelant being Doomsekkar's or the sigil of Amzerathoth, which is sigil that is used to trap eldritch beings, or keep mortal guises stable when worn. It is often stitched into clothing - especially cloaks and jackets. There are other sigils - Ghosdeeri's sigil being a sigil that protects the wearer and Dusekkar's being one that conceals them etc. - but I won't get into them now. Most spawn will have a mortal disguise they use to blend into society.
Now, onto each of the dieties, old gods, whatever, themselves. Now, each of these guys have like, twelve titles each, and every time I write about them, they gain more - so I'm just gonna include them all.
Firebrand, the Sun Bringer, Ruler of the Day, the Raging Inferno, the True Light, King of the Flame - Firebrand was given the command of the sun, lifting it into the sky and carrying it across the Inpherno every day to bring light across the realms. He didn't receive a region, instead gaining what would become Banlands, a region in the far south that he would rest in every night. He would later claim Crossroads from Ghostwalker, and rule over that area as its king. He is the most powerful of the old gods, with only his sister being able to go toe to toe with him. He is currently sealed away after the whole, Scorch incident. His spawn are often reptilian, with powers surrounding fire and light, their mortal disguises often appear intense and noble, with a fierceness behind their eyes that seems to always be present. (Valk and Dom are both Sun Spawn)
Icedagger, the Moon Bringer, the Icy Ridge Ahead, the False Light, Ruler of the Icy North, the Suffocating Frost, Azurewrath - Icedagger was given command of the moon, and carries it across the sky every evening to shed light through the darkness of night. He ruled over Blackrock, with his resting place being Mt. Azurewrath, which he is currently sealed under due to the efforts of the Korblox Administration. He is a lot weaker than some of his kin, owing a lot to his comparatively frail form. His spawn are often very spindly and fractiline, with powers surrounding ice and night affinity - their mortal disguises often having a fragility to them, with a quiet, unnerving nature, even if their personality clashes with such.
Illumina, the Dawn Bringer, Light of a New Dawn, the Light Bringer, It that Wakes the Day, Coming of the Future - Illumina holds command over the day, and would run ahead of Firebrand to announce the coming of his splendour. He holds domain over Lost Temple, but is often not seen there, preferring a nomadic lifestyle in a mortal disguise. Between their creator's disappearance, Firebrand's, and the civil war - they feel their goal is lost in life and are uncertain of their position within the old pantheon. Their spawn are often associated with fortune telling, light and music, often being very bird-like, with their mortal disguises often having a grace and undefinable beauty to them. They are also the least numerous of the various spawn, and to call oneself a Dawn Spawn is to command respect from others.
Venomshank, the Night Bringer, the Beast of a Thousand Bodies, the Sweet Dream, the Coming Dusk, the Eternal Army - Venomshank holds command of the night, as well as the Dreamlands, a place that can only be accessed through the dreaming of mortals, and where he mostly dwells, this realm is currently under the control of Hastur, his eldest spawn. Venomshank held domain of Thieves' Den, though he prefers to stay out of worship there. He is most known for his true form being comprised of the bodies of thousands of mortals - various followers he has gained throughout the years, all adopted as part of him. This functions like a colonial organism, where they work as a whole - while still being independent from each other. In Venomshank's case - it is due to his true form being too frail to support itself, so the mortals act like muscles to it. His spawn often posses multiple limbs or wings, an affinity to the arts and the night, and whose mortal disguises are often appear very serene, which exceptionally noticeable eyes. (Current Night Spawn include Medkit, Sword, Hastur, Herald of Tides, and Herald of Sleep)
Windforce, the Storm Bringer, Splinter of the Sky, the Untamed Tempest, the Oncoming Hurricane, the Ruler of the Winds - Windforce is the ruler of the skies and the weather - most notably storms. She holds command over Playgrounds, with a dedicated following which is the Splintered Skies. She is arguably one of the least caring about mortal relations, and while regularly break apart Playgrounds whilst flying through it. Her spawn often have many wings and long bodies, with powers associated with storms or wind, their mortal disguises often possess unnatural figure and overwhelming personalities. (Current Storm Spawn include Ban Hammer and Herald of Lightning)
Ghostwalker, Death, Momento Mori, The Coming End, the Being with a Thousand Voices - Ghostwalker is death. He is the collector of the souls of the fallen, gathering them into his form in a similar way to Venomshank - though in his case it works like a siphonophore. While in theory they can be separate, it is also impossible to separate them. He used to rule over Crossroads, or what would become it, but gave up the position for Firebrand. He and his spawn are the most powerful of any of the great old ones. He created the Watchers, his only spawn, who have their own realm and domain - a massive archive that constantly shifts and changes with need and contains the true name of everything to ever exist. (Current Death Spawn include the Watchers)
Darkheart, Darkness, The Beast That Consumes, It is Contrary to Belief, the Madness of Nothing, Oblivion - Darkheart was the last being Azathoth created, and rules over darkness and the things beyond human understanding. He moves between regions as he sees fit, terrorising mortals and producing spawn as he goes. In fact, his spawn are incredibly numerous being the most common type out of all of the lineages. They often have bizarre, non-sensical forms, and very wide and varied powers, if they have them at all, their mortal forms often have a strange viciousness to them, with their teeth often being very notable, and often having eyes that seem forever cast in shadow. (Current Dark Spawn include Scythe, Der Sandtmann and the Shadow of Glacier)
This is already long enough, so I'm going to add one more thing and leave it at that.
All spawn can at anytime they choose, claim a gear from the spawn, or change the gear they've claimed - as they aren't fully inphernal, they don't need it to survive. A gear mostly serves as something to better blend into society, and can often bring clarity to a spawn's identity outside of their parentage.
Lastly, Ineffable Spawn as a name is really fun to me. Ineffable is a word that describes things that are unable to be understood, and Spawn is a double meaning - both the Spawn - as in the place inphernals come from, and the Spawn - as in the beast created by the great olds ones.
Anyways, most info on the actual story I'm hoping to plot out with this can be elaborated on later if needed, or can be found on my main blog.
Thank-you for reading all of this btw. I know its really long (。ᵕ ◞ _◟)
“Oh, boy! I can’t wait to read up on this neat AU! I sure hope my two favourite deities aren’t currently sealed away!”
Firebrand and Icedagger:
Regardless of my...personal preferences...I think this is really well thought out! If you, the average phightingaus follower, just skipped to the bottom (like I'm sure some folks here do), then seriously. I recommend scrolling back up and actually giving this a read through. It's well worth it!
Like- seriously. I love how you went really in-depth for every single deity. All in one post. I certainly couldn't do that, haha- and I especially like the fact that you can visually tell who's the spawn of who, just by their less...natural traits, I suppose you could say. And you did something not a lot of people do; you brought up some official(?) Roblox lore by tying in Korblox! There's so many ideas that can be drawn from older Roblox items, I swear.
Despite it only being a tiny detail in the sea that is this AU, I'd love to hear more. And not just about Korblox/other groups besides the general factions/church. You're cooking, Acer. And you didn't burn a thing!
Stares at you with big innocent eyes
Headcanons
Deities headcanons do you have
BOY DO I........
Illumina -
Illumina can appear in dreams
The loss of Illumina's wing and Icedagger's disappearance from the timeline coincided (TRUST ME GUYSSSSSS)
Illumina has OCD (Listen. LISTEN. Many people develop OCD due to religious experiences, right. Like, scrupulosity is a thing. BUT IMAGINE. ILLUMINA IS LITERALLY THE GOD HIMSELF, so of COURSE he would feel this extra need to be pure and goodhearted, OF COURSEEEE) Darkheart teases him about this and he doesn't like it
Illumina finds any physical contact very uncomfortable, he will NOT except hugs or anything even from family. The only time he'll touch another person is if he's laying hands on them during prayer
Very Katana-esque in that he finds all entertainment to be a waste of time, except reading. He likes reading <3
Very pastel, likes cute things <3
Likes grape juice but limits himself to only drinking holy drinks (water)
Enjoys being worshipped by mortals way more than he lets on. If he were to lose the approval of mortals he would FREAK OUT. Resents Firebrand for making so many mortals turn on him.
Darkheart -
EXACT opposite of Illumina with the OCD thing. Darkheart doesn't feel any pressure to be perfect because, well, everything he does is perfect! It doesn't matter if he shows up in mismatched socks and falls flat on his face, he's a DEITY, people will worship him no matter what, so why try? Besides, he doesn't care that much about being worshipped anyways
He likes disguising himself and causing chaos among mortals, specifically at events. Oh, cool concert soon! Oh, why's that drummer so tall? Well, whatever! Oh... Oh no..... The drummer is an eldtritch chaos entity.... Oh no oh no- OH it's just Darkheart, nvm....
HEEL WEARER OF ALL TIME
WAY too friendly with mortals, WILL show up at your house uninvited
Talks to himself. Since his gear is another entity he talks to it. Looks VERY creepy from the outside because you'll see him go in a corner and just start whispering and it'll be like multiple voices all talking to each other
Touch starved, will be weird about it
Probably has a secret soundcloud page or something. He's a rapper.......
Firebrand -
Big greedy dragon, his palace has so many fucking JEWELS
Can go into fire just like how Darkheart can go into shadows
He really really really likes chocolate chip cookies
SOOOO touchy, he loves hugs, he WILL hug you, and with his loved ones he's even more affectionate. Hence why his flame-proof gloves are VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!
Enjoys sparring a lot, but it's all in good fun
Very very bad at monopoly
I know he killed like hundreds of people but he's so cute okay I'M SORRY MAN, blame Soda for making the hundeds-of-people-killer so cute
Flustered easily, tell him his outfit is nice and WATCH HIM BLUSH!!!!
He likes. Horn jewelry. A lot <3333
He wants to find a way to put out the fire in Lost Temple but he doesn't know how
Horrible at baking. He has tried.
Feels cold all the time, put him in a sauna
OBJECTUM!!!!!!!!
Venomshank -
GOTH VENOMSHANK GOTH VENOMSHANK IT WILL BE CANON IT WILLLLLLLL
His venom has no known cure, which is why he studies medicine. He feels lots of shame about it
Hates anything that takes his agency away (alcohol, substances, etc etc.) Anything that alters his mind makes him feel similar to when he's in feral mode and he doesn't like that
So much guilt so so much guilt unbelievable amounts of guilt
He'll gives hugs to the ones he's close with....
Takes much pleasure in eating seeds like a bird. Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, JUST GIVE HIM SEEDS <3
He's a very good cook. Mainly learned for Sword's sake
Ice Dagger -
CHRONIC FATIGUE BEAMMMMMMMMMM
He is constantly warm. Needs so much AC
He just goes along with what the others say
Likes plushies <3
Yearns for love and affection (don't tell anyone)
Probably touch starved. His skin is really cold
Dresses so casual you can't tell he's a deity
Like seriously, even if he wasn't missing and forgotten by the population, if he just went out on the town in his normal clothes nobody would know who he is. Especially because he's the size of an average inphernal.
Deity of seasons (Yes all of them)
Pray to him, maybe he will bring you cookies and then awkwardly go "idk how to fix your marriage though sorry man" (People pray to the deities for THE randomest shit)
Probably would listen to Pinkpantheress I think
Ghostwalker -
Fatherly to all of the watchers, visits them for the holidays even though he thinks it's a waste of time
Never longed for anything in his life. He is not joyous nor whimsical. Everything he does is in pursuit of more knowledge
No fashion sense (doesn't care) but he will roast you if you're dressed improperly (diva)
Knows about Illumina's issues and tries to comfort him, VERY bad at it
Although he physically cannot feel care for his siblings or his watchers, he tries to keep in touch and be kind because he thinks it's important to keep his relationships in order
He favors the siblings he thinks are the smartest (Illumina) and does NOT favor the ones he finds stupid (Darkheart, Windforce)
Windforce -
Cool guy persona but she loses her shit so easily. VERY easy to piss off OR make sad. If you tease her about it she WILL smite your ass
Biggest and perhaps physically strongest of the SFOTH, likes to destroy things in her free time
VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES <33333
She could not care less about mortals, which sucks considering she's literally leading them. "Windforce please give us better healthcare and tax benefits!!!!" "I don't fucking care loser"
Treasures her son but also didn't do the greatest job raising him, but she tried her best
Ban Hammer needs a lot of care (can't manage money or cook) and he gets lonely easily so a lot of her time goes to him (hence why they are so close)
AROACE QUEENNNNNNNNNN
Genuinely will cause destruction for fun. Playground's infastructure is very poor because they KNOW she's gonna destroy that shit, so they gotta keep construction costs cheap by using pretty awful materials
Someone please get her out of office oh god
She does NOT care for horn upkeep so they're kinda disastrous
Cannot stand still, she WILL be twirling and jumping up and down
You hear stories about her being terrifying and scary and then you meet her and she's just. 🕺🕺
Okay I ran out
Thanks for the morning yap sesh oppurtunity !!!!!!!!
> Untapped market potential for believable sfoth phighting ocs
> (these are not official sfoth swords and they're NOT real gears either! These are from the fangame Sfoth: Reforged! I just thought it'd be interesting,,,,)
Where Are You, Firebrand? (An analysis of Firebrand’s disappearance, with doodles)
Ten years ago, Firebrand went missing. But where ever did he go? Well. I have a few suggestions.
(These are ordered from least-likely to most-likely, in my biased opinion. It has also come to my attention that his wings are totally off in the doodles, he should have two on his back rather than one on the side of his head. For my sake, I ask that you ignore this.)
Number one: Firebrand has taken on a secret identity
After the fire, he knew he couldn’t stay around. Everyone was (rightfully) outraged by his actions, and he needed to get away. What better to do than take on a persona, fake a new identity and run away from the life he once lived?
This theory is. Interesting. It would open up a ton of new possibilities— Firebrand could LITERALLY be an existing character. Boombox? More like. Fucking Firebrand in disguise.
However, there is one glaring issue with this theory. It doesn’t matter if he carves is horns and hides his wings, Firebrand is 8 FT tall, tied with Windforce for the tallest person in all of the Inpherno.
He may be a deity, but that doesn’t mean he’s a shapeshifter (will talk about that possibility later). There’s really no way to hide being that tall. This theory is not plausible.
Number two: Firebrand is being held captive
Perhaps by a revenge-seeking inphernal, perhaps by one of his own siblings trapping him away and making sure he cannot do any more harm, it would make sense for SOMEBODY to lock him up, punish him for what he did.
The thing is… That’s the literal god of fire. He was able to set a whole city on fire, I think he can get out of some ropes. He would need to be in a VERY sturdy holding facility, not to mention: Who the hell would keep him there?
His siblings are powerful, but all of the SFOTH are said to be pretty evenly matched in terms of power, and there’s no way a regular inphernal could do it, no matter how motivated they were!
Not to mention his sword event. What, do they let him out? I don’t think so bud. This one’s unlikely.
Number three: Firebrand is in Sword Mode
Following the scorch, Firebrand’s name is tainted, his life on the line, his wellbeing in shambles, and he doesn’t know where to go. With nowhere to turn to, he transforms into his sword, hidden from the world. Perhaps on display in the home of someone unsuspecting, perhaps being held onto and watched after by one of his siblings.
So. The issue here is that we don’t know if this is possible.
All inphernals are spawned with a gear that represents the essence of their being, almost like their entire soul concentrated into one place, but it’s unknown if all inphernals can turn into their gear at will.
We know of one character who can do this, Snow Wolf, Coil’s mentor who can turn into a giant wolf and is said to be a shapeshifter. While that’s great for her, it’s not likely that all inphernals can do this.
Unlikely, but it would be really fucking cool. Imagine a DITF scene where Sword just finds the Firebrand and has no idea what it is AUGH. But also. Unlikely.
Number four: Firebrand is alive and well
After the fire, Firebrand just kind of…. Moves into the woods. Or something. Maybe he lives in a cave now. No disguise or anything, just regular old FB.
This one would kinda make sense, but it would require him to be somewhere VERY secretive. Nobody has seen him in TEN YEARS, and I’m SURE they’ve been searching, not to mention the Inpherno seems to be a bit smaller than Earth (I think). His hiding place would need to be IMMACULATE.
Not to mention, Firebrand has had NO contact with the outside world.
Maybe I’m giving him too much credit, but he seems to have cared DEEPLY for Crossroads and for his grandchildren. You’re telling me he hasn’t even looked on TV to realize what Valk and Dom are up to? Hasn’t gotten curious and ventured out, not even once? He’s just stayed hiding alone, all this time?
Overall, this one is somewhat likely, but I have more interesting ideas.
Number five: Firebrand is in space
After the scorch, Firebrand travels to a distant planet to escape the consequences of what he’s done. Or maybe he’s exiled there, who knows.
You may be asking, ‘How do we know he can get to space?’ Well. I have EVIDENCE!
Darkheart can sometimes teleport you to their map, Fractured Space. The title of the theme playing in Fractured Space is ‘Edge of Inphinity.’ Inphinity is the word used to refer to the entirety of Phighting’s universe, including space. This implies Darkheart can teleport to space. It’s also implied that space travel without help from a deity is possible due to the existence of Space Knights.
The real issue with this theory comes about when we consider that Fractured Space and Space Knights canonicity are both questionable. Most Phighting maps are actually confirmed to be non-canon. The only maps confirmed to represent a real place are Banland, Darkage Cliffs, Craterdust Capital, and Shooting Teapot Observatory, and even then, these maps are said to be inaccurate to how they’d appear in-universe.
Because of this, we can’t prove space travel is possible in-universe, especially not long-term. Even if inphernals have made it to space, Firebrand escaping the planet and surviving for ten years somewhere else would be a scientific feat like no other.
If space travel is possible, though, then this theory could be likely.
Finally, my favorite theory, number six: Firebrand is somewhere outside of Inphinity
So. Oh my god. How do I even begin to explain this.
While space travel isn’t confirmed canon, we know that deities can travel to alternate realms/places outside of the Inphinity due to Darkheart’s backdoor that he shows off in DITF. This opens up the possibility that Firebrand, willingly or unwillingly, is outside of the universe itself.
If willingly: Firebrand trapped himself in a pocket realm as a way of escapism (mentally or from the law). Maybe he didn’t trust himself not to hurt people again, maybe he felt unsafe staying somewhere where so many people dislike him.
If unwillingly: It’s completely possible that one of the other SFOTH deities (or even somebody ELSE who is just particularly powerful) has him sealed somewhere as punishment.
This would explain why he knows nothing that’s been going on, why nobody has seen him, why he hasn’t made an attempt to visit anyone, etc etc. On my blog I’ve also suggested the idea he’s in a ‘pause realm,’ meaning he wouldn’t even be able to feel time passing.
The only thing left unexplained here is his sword event. If he is in a pause realm or being held against his will, how does he break out for those few minutes?
And I hate to say… I don’t have an explanation for that. The closet thing I have is this—
The team doesn’t feel Firebrand’s round is fitting for him. This IS from the official wiki, specifically here, but I’m sad to report that this page is currently unvetted by Soda.
I still think Pause Realm theory is the best. But unfortunately I can’t fully debunk all of the counter evidence.
Slight addendum from the future:
While I still can’t fully explain the nature of Firebrand’s sword event, I’ll say that one of his dialogues specifically seems to support pause realm theory.
“Allow me to show you who’s king!”
It’s like he’s stuck in the past, in a way. He’s pretending nothing happened. He’s acting like it’s still ten years ago, he’s still king, the fire hasn’t happened, everything is fine. It’s strange.
This still doesn’t explain how or why he shows up, but it does SORT OF support my idea.
—
Then there is, of course, possibility seven, NONE of these are true, Firebrand is doing some other shit entirely. Maybe he’s out fishing. But these are the six I thought were the coolest so yeah.
Please……… Let me know what you think……….. Give me Ideas………..
If you made it this far I’m madly in love with you /silly /p /j
A few concept sketches for SFOTH family tail designs! <3 I've seen people do this for the PHIGHTING! characters before and i think it's really fun :D
Keeping characters with non-animal-gear-based tails to just the SFOTH (+Ban & Flipside) for now. Not sure if i want to make it an overall thing but it's also really fun.... so maybe i will...
i like to think the reason why icedagger is 1) believed to not even exists by some inphernals and 2) was not around during the sfoth spawnday qna is because he's been sleeping. or specifically, hibernating. his inactivity as a deity has made people begin to forget he was even a real person at all.
it's a bit of a joke on the idea that animals will go into hibernation during wintertime (and, well, he's a winter deity). but ive been thinking about it a lot recently and ive come to the conclusion that icedagger simply isn't awake most of the time. not anymore anyway. perhaps there was once a time icedagger was a more active deity in the inpherno, but as times change, so does he.
as a result of his constant snoozefest icedagger is heavily connected to dreams. his dream world is this colorful, bubbly place that he rarely wants to leave. many people appear in his dreams, usually old friends he used to have. but some most reoccurring characters are his own siblings-- though they're aged down to be a similar age to him. i heard the sfoth were never children at some point (not sure where, so this might be inaccurate), yet icedagger himself is nineteen. at least, mentally. so i like to think this is a kind of wish fulfillment on his part. being the youngest and the only deity who's not a full adult makes him feel out of place in this regard. and he doesn't want to feel that way in his dreams.
also, speaking of the other sfoth. the only way they can contact icedagger is through his dreams, given he's sleeping most of the time. they worry a lot about the poor kid, though he insists he's fine (says the guy who sleeps away his problems)
not only that, but i think icedagger can travel to other inphernal's dreams. as well as control what happens in them. though, because of his timidness, he mostly remains an observer to them rather than someone who interacts with the dreamer. though he does interact with them if it's a particularly sad or even scary dream. or if he's simply interested enough in that inphernal. most of these people are on the younger side, though. i think talking to adults is scary to him.
i think he also isolates himself a lot. again a bit of a pun given his element is ice LMAO. but it's this reason why he's so reliant on his dreams; it's for comfort. he's much happier in his dreams compared to reality, but if i explained more on that i think i'd be here all day LMAO.... but in short, he's struggling a lot, mentally speaking. and his emotional state ends up effecting blackrock's weather (he spends most of his time there because cold). hence why it's so wintery there all the time.
maybe i'll come back to this idea another time. i play too much yume 2kki, i think....
OH MY GOD MY BABY IM GINNA CRY☹️☹️☹️
I feel like a Sword can never truly die, but their soul is trapped in their gear forever as like a punishment for getting yourself killed. Linked Sword in Sword's ear telling them to stab that guy 27 times in the chest (The guy is Rocket)
-Beatdrop Anon
i had a hc that i posted a while back when i was still an anon that the previous wielder of the linked sword gear was one of the swords but they died and spawned as our sword many many years later, is this based off that????? IF SO I'M GONNA TWEAK OUT CUZ I HAD THIS IN MIND AS WELL AND OMG WAWAWAWAWAWAA
