Mordenna grinned. "For fun I like to drink straight vodka to frighten non-Reapers. But if I'm drinking to actually enjoy myself..." Mordenna tapped his chin. "Whiskey and Irish cream in a shot glass, then drop it into some stout, then shotgun it. I don't remember the name of the drink, but I call it the 'Irish Bomb' thanks to the cream and the way you drop it in and people seem to know what I'm talking about."

for context: who Xaibar? what he do?

Xabiar is the author of the Hades Contingency and related works on Ao3 and FF.Net. Our contact has been limited--he gave a rather short-sighted review in hindsight for SFTD when it was just at Chapter Four; complaining of how Eliza seemed unfit for the military, of how I characterized Mordenna and imposing how he thought the Hunter should be acting, and generally misunderstanding what kind of story SFTD was. When I made my initial distress clear on Tumblr, he messaged me privately to handle things and we settled there. That was where things ended, really, outside of me developing a few plot points in response to his criticism, but perhaps not in the way he believed. (Jax was never meant to have a bomb collar on him in the draft of SFTD before his review.)

Quite a while later, when I was looking at Reddit to see if anyone was talking about my fanfic, I ran across this.

Hey Jax, how did you learn to take such good care of your hair? Did anyone teach you? Did you just know?

"I wish I could arrogantly claim to have known when I was formed," Jax replied. "But that would be to disparage those who did teach me. I learned from my former Priests and current Mystics--they were initially charged with preparing me for social outings, and this of course entails making sure my hair is in perfect order."

Jax dragged the braid his hair was in over his shoulder. "Eventually, I asked if they would teach me how to maintain it myself--first as some measure to claim independence, then to ease their burdens. I have been largely maintaining it myself ever since..." He smiled gently. "Save for when the Mystics grow nostalgic and wish to tend to it themselves once more."

Got a lil question for Mords, and this should be a fun one: If you could build a house entirely out of one material, only one, and it can be any element in the known universe, what would it be?

“Funny you ask that,” Mordenna muttered, “I’ve had house building on the mind recently. Now, what would I do if I was the fourth little piggy...?” After a second of thinking, he shrugs. “I’m gonna be boring here and say that mishmash of metals that has been termed ‘alien alloy.’ The stuff is pretty sturdy and versatile, good for guns and construction. Only problem is getting enough to make it on that large a scale, but hey, we can scrap a few UFOs.” Something occurs to Mordenna, and he sighs. “Speaking of UFOs... ah, a thought for later.

Ok Chosen! I'm taking you all to Build-A-Bear. What kind of stuffed animal are you each getting?

The two brothers seem perplexed--but all it takes is seeing Fal-Mai's face to light up for them to hide it. "Do they have unicorns, or pegasi? I'd love to have a stuffed unicorn, they are--" Fal-Mai seemed to realize what that must sound like coming from her, and she pressed her lips together. "... if. If they have them. It would be nice."

"Sis." Mordenna clapped his hand on her shoulder. "Get excited. I like seeing you happy."

Fal-Mai smiled again, somewhat bashfully. "Unicorns are majestic and I would like one that smells like cherries..."

"Kinda forgot they did scents." Mordenna let his hand slide off of Fal-Mai's shoulder. "Me, I'd probably just get something for Vix. They still do Pokemon, right? Probably a Pikachu. Plushies ain't my speed."

Jax looked to the side, causing Fal-Mai to reach and squeeze his hand. He sighed. "... if they have peacocks, I would like one."

JAX CALLING ASARU "MY SON" GIVES ME LIFE. 100/10 BEST DAD. Also idk why but that 'before sunrise he's your son' scene from lion king popped into my mind with the whole host-hopping thingy with Asaru, Jax, and Eliza. I wonder, will we get to see some interaction between the kids (Luina-Ta, Vix, and Asaru) in the Avenger? And Tygan shutting Vahlen up is just *chef's kiss*. Anyway, STAY SAFE AND THANK YOU FOR THIS CHAPTER ;w;

Jax has very much accepted the fact that Asaru is essentially his son, and intends to own that. As for that interaction, I do intend to show it, whether in SFTD or in TDF. You stay safe as well!

AU! What would the Chosen be doing during quarantine? Stay safe and healthy, author!

Jax would probably brush up on his piano and violin skills! Nothing like staying at home all the time to make you play for fun. He’d probably arrange video meetings for the Mystics to check up on them and if they’ve had any success with their art. He’d probably be the one to get sick of staying at home the fastest, but quarantine, man. This assumes all of the Chosen would be at risk for COVID.

Fal-Mai would take up yoga! It’s something she’s always been meaning to get more into, and it would give her a chance to while away hours while focusing herself. She might pick up a small rade in that time via tutorials, perhaps knitting! The second quickest to get cabin fever, but the yoga helps stave it off.

Mordenna takes to quarantine the best. He’s out here cranking out projects and little improvements that he occasionally mails to his siblings--after letting them sit out so any potential viruses die out first before he sends them! The only time he might catch cabin fever is when he wants to see his siblings but doesn’t want to show up for their own safety.

They will be eventually! I swear! Just have some stuff to get through before that point.
