A NOTE FROM ADMIN VI: Introducing Scarlet Gardens, everyone! I can't believe it's been a year since the idea of angsty sci-fi Dutch gravediggers first rolled into my head. While this is an original—and, frankly, weird as hell—roleplay, I've taken a great deal of aesthetic inspiration from Frankenstein, NBC's Hannibal, BBC's In the Flesh, and a variety of undead folklore from all around the world.

Currently, almost all pages are complete and available for perusing via the NAVIGATION. There is, admittedly, a lot of information to sift through—but fret not! Almost everything will be covered organically through the twenty bios I plan to release in the coming weeks, so that the scarlet-verse is easy to follow and a pleasure to experience. Pages like the ENCYCLOPEDIA are meant to serve as supplementary resources, not mandatory readings! That being said, I do believe taking advantage of the information on these pages will enrich your bio-reading process. Of course, I am also always happy to answer your QUESTIONS.

I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Emma and Ripley, who have done more for SG than they ever needed to. All thanks to their insight, patience, and good humor, I've had a wonderful experience building this new rp thus far. Anyway, the first bio will be released tomorrow. Until then, happy exploring!

Hi, hi! Me again. Three things:

ONE. Agostina’s FC has been changed from Morena Baccarin to Thandie Newton. This change was discussed between myself, Emma, and Ripley, and ultimately came down to personal preference! Changes have been made to her graphics. 

TWO. I’m happy to announce that Emma and Ripley will now be signing onto SG as my official co-admins! They have really been so invaluable to me behind-the-scenes—and in many ways, have been my co-admins since day one! Emma will be assisting with plot drops, events, and long-term in-game planning, while Ripley will be assisting with character concepts and, like, the general coherence of my writing haha. I am still writing all remaining bios, but the three of us will continue to collaborate on various creative decisions!

THREE. The next three bios are slated to be Blue, Maurice, and Sasha. I’m aiming to knock out all three by the end of this weekend, so keep an eye out for them!

Good evening, everyone! I wanted to make a formal announcement to address a few changes I’ve made, and plan to continue making, to SG. I would like to acknowledge first that certain aspects of the way I have chosen to portray Resurrector-Undead relationships are problematic. Namely, the depictions of certain Undead soldiers displaying subservient tendencies toward their Resurrectors—to the point where imagery of a master-slave relationship can be evoked. This was pointed out to me, and after rereading Julian and Peter’s bios, it became clear that this conclusion could very well be drawn! 

To those who were rightfully troubled by this creative decision on my part, I apologize wholeheartedly. While the chronic sedation of the Undead as a means of controlling and forcing loyalty from them are heavily touched upon throughout SG’s world lore, I have never intended to glorify this aspect of the roleplay! In fact, the ugly reality of this situation is meant to serve as a major catalyst for change in-game, as are the Ascendancy’s blatantly unethical drug practices. These topics should never have been written in any way, shape, or form that conveyed a sense of romanticism or glory/power—but rather, critically depicted as ways in which these characters, and this world, are horribly, horribly flawed.

I do believe I failed to uphold this creative philosophy—and certain word choices/portrayals were inappropriate and inconsiderate. I would like to take this time to apologize once more, and encourage those who feel uncomfortable with any aspect of SG to continue to speak up. I promise to always listen and make the appropriate changes when they are needed! As of right now, Julian and Peter’s bios have been edited and made publicly available once again. I have included a list of changes under the Read More as well. Thank you!

The “Master” title will be removed from all Resurrector positions. The “Master” in the context of these roles were references to a “mastery” over the art of resurrection, but in hindsight, I’ve realized how easily it can be misconstrued and evoke, frankly, disgusting imagery. Julian, Neeve, Cecile, and Nikolaas are not meant to have been depicted as literal “masters” over the Undead. Changes have been made to all bios, and will be made to pages in the following days.

Julian’s relationship to those he has raised from the dead—namely, Sasha and Evander—has been clarified in several bios, but particularly his. He is not a “master” of any sort over those he raises, but instead, a figure of reverence. Julian intentionally distances himself emotionally from his creations, and their dynamic may be compared to that of a high-ranking commander and his troops. All mentions of Julian exercising “domination” or “power” over his Undead, as well all mentions of his Undead being “shackled” to him, have been removed. If lingering references remain, please let me know!

Hello! This is a quick note to confirm that I’ve received the ask regarding the portrayal of Resurrector-Undead relationships within SG, and that I intend to address this matter fully at the end of tonight when I’m home. For now, I’d like to thank the anon for bringing up something that, in hindsight, I recognize as being very problematic, as well as offer my sincerest apologies. I’ve also privated Peter and Julian’s bios temporarily while I make necessary changes—they’ll return shortly!

Hello, hello! Three things, very quickly:

ONE. Zelda’s bio has been revamped! I was unhappy with the way I’d written her, as I felt her story was more or less missing...something? However, after make some adjustments, I’m much more satisfied with her bio now! Although her story remains largely the same, I would encourage those who are interested in applying for Zelda to give the bio a second read-through. <3

TWO. Please look forward to Luana’s bio later tonight! Although I will do my absolute best to complete one bio a day, please have faith that if I skip a day, it is simply because the bio feels incomplete to me and, given some extra time, will be released in a better state than it would have been the day before. Thank you, again, for your understanding. I will also be making a “spotlight” post, similar to last Sunday’s. Keep an eye out!

THREE. I will be reaching out to talktag participants at the end of tonight to collect their bio requests! Although I had initially planned to only select one “winner” to accept a request from, I believe hearing from everyone will be much more useful in terms of determining which character(s) everyone is more interested in seeing. If you’d like for me reach out for a bio request, it’s not too late still to participate in the tag!
