Kicking off the Singapore Bicentennial celebrations @sgbicentennial #SgBicentennial had Singaporean artist Teng Kai Wei doing an #opticalillusion of the iconic Sir Stamford Raffles statue. Some interesting facts about this much-photographed statue: The statue is actually a copy of the original dark bronze statue, and was placed here in 1969 on the 150th anniversary of Singapore’s founding. The much older, original statue, is located in front of Victoria Memorial Hall at Empress Place. Awkward Party x Artichoke Present Third Wheeling

Singapore Art Week is here again with a series of exciting activities held across the island. One of the most intriguing event is “Third Wheeling” which is billed “an interactive dining experience” which “urges Singaporeans to re-examine the way we connect to each other through communal dining” This two-day interactive dining experience is a collaboration between Awkward Party and Artichoke Restaurant, renowned for its Middle Eastern cuisine.

Once my wife and I arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by three colorful sculptures which contained everything we needed to get the party started: starters, utensils, plates, cups, and napkins. All of these items were hidden within the sculptures, and diners were welcomed to explore the artwork in order to uncover its hidden mysteries.

To make it extra fun and interactive for diners, there were several obstacle courses that needed to be fulfilled in order to trigger food items to be served including using a mini pump to draw water, sharing interesting stories with the waiters to receive our mains, and swapping seats with each other to savor our dessert.

Starters for the day included a variety of dips and pickles to pair with the bread, while the mains featured grilled meats sitting on a bed of salad. For desserts, its soft sweet crackers with ice cream and strawberries.

Overall, the event was a fun communal dining experience with a lot of surprises and laughter. I am hoping that it returns in 2024 with more surprises at an even more intriguing location.

REFUSE is presented by a Singapore-based experimental band called The Observatory. It is an inter-media exhibition about music, mushrooms, and de-composition. The exhibition combines mycology design, scenography installation, archive arrangement, moving image, and guest curation. REFUSE draws on the band's past and presents influences, bringing together their interests in fungi and mycelial networks to explore the twin ideas of decomposition and composition from biological and musical perspectives. The presentation comprises a time-based installation space and archive, and speaks to The Observatory's constantly evolving methodologies, the communities that surround them, as well as their important place in the Singapore music scene.

WEEK 1 & 2 (Installation Hunt)

A Machine Boosting Energy into the Universe by Korakrit Arunanondchai

An exhibition centres around the artist video installation “Painting with history in a room filled people with funny names” The environment and mood inside the room caught my attention of how post-apocalyptic it was and there were many discarded auto parts. As i walked around, there was a huge installation like building which had a mix of techno futuristic feel to it and as i sat down to watch the 25 min video there life-sized cyborg mannequin sitting and standing around me. Even the mannequin was well dressed for the event i would say. This exhibit caught my attention in terms of how i am able to enjoy and be able to interacted with the installations.
