Hello. Newer SG fan here, only finally got around to watching it last year and love it, but annoyed at the sudden stop at Season 5. You made a comment on another thread about the producers sidelining Flanagan who was standing up for the other actors. Can you please explain what that was all about? All I know are the indications that they were homophobic and sexist, which some of the actors (like Torri) have alluded to.
Well... that's a bit of a long story. Flanagan was the representative of the actors, as in the union representative or however americans call it, the one that spoke in the representation of actors/actresses for labor propurses.
The producers (Mallozzi at the head) were not treating Torri and her character (Weir) as they should, and Flanigan spoke to them about it. Basically, he did his job.
The producers' solution to their issues with Torri was killing Weir off and firing her. Then they wanted her back for guest appearances and they got her for one (remember when repli-Weir appeared the first time), then they wanted her again for Ghost in the Machine (the one when another actress plays Weir), but by then she was done with their BS because she rejected the job.
Flanigan kept doing his job representing the actors/actresses, so the producers decided to punish him by sidelining the character or writing him badly.
So basically, Mallozzi and his minions decided to be shitty to the actors/actresses representative which is really shitty because it's bad for working relationships and it's just wrong...
