Eye test in UK
I feel like I really need to share my experience with the optical check up I have had here in UK. I honestly think they do one of the best eye check up/tests ever (although its not like I have been to many places for eye check up but anyway!).
Couple of months back I needed new prescription glasses, so I went to Specsavers and make an appointment. One thing about getting things done here in UK is that - you ALWAYS have to make appointment (ok most of the time), like getting a hair cut, or getting new glasses, not like how we can always walk in when in Sg/Msia. Its good because then you go at specific timing and avoid the crowds, but its also bad (for me) cause I hate waiting for a few days before getting a hair cut etc. But that’s not the point ok. So I went for my appointment, and I had the MOST thorough check up ever I swear. And it took me almost half an hour just to check my eyes condition (not even doing my prescription. They are really really detailed, checking your eye muscles, checking your cornea and your family history and really just everything! Its true it takes a while but then at least I know my eyes are healthy, also, the eye test I got was free (WAHAHA). Then I went on to get my prescription, and got my glasses. A few days ago, I went back to Specsavers, asking about contact lens - simply because I was planning to wear lens during my Europe trip with my family because you guys know how it can be a chore to keep wearing glasses. Made another free appointment, got another simpler check up (part of it they used fluorescence dye to see how my eye condition is - omg so cool), and I got 5 pairs of FREE contact lens to try on! [disclaimer - only Specsavers do free eye check up/contact lens] How awesome right! I have got astig on my left eye, so I tried a new lens that is called Toric lens, don’t know if you guys heard of it before, but apparently its good for astig, so yeah. Went for another appointment just now to see how I am getting along with the lens and did another round of checking up. Gave me some advices about the lens etc etc. Well I haven’t really get them, but I will get them when I am gonna go travel. So yes, I just really wanna say, they give such detailed check up, which is really amazing, cause eyes/vision are so important, and its just nice to see how professional they are. Told my sis about it, and even she was impressed. Cause if you go to Sg/Msia, they don’t do such detailed check up right? And you probably will have to go to the hospital if you have issues with your eyes to get a proper check up. So yeah! Big thumb up to opticians in UK! :D And since I am on it, I will share abit about my dental experience here too. I was registered as a new patient under this dentist, so I paid around £50=S$100 for check up, X-rays, polishing & filling. CAN YOU IMAGINE! I know its really expensive to get X-rays in Sg! The price I paid is subsided because I am a student! But still, really good price and I get like everything! Although I know getting braces here are a lot more expensive! Its not like I can really encourage you guys to get dental/eye check up here, but if you got a chance, why not? :p
