I meant to ask this like, 3 days ago, whatevs. BUT, I'm basically the OC collector so I've gotta ask about your ocs. ANY ( and if you want ) all of them. Some facts or lore, they look interesting and I want to know more. ( Also Cleith I love you /POS /SILLY )
I was not expecting anyone to ask me about my guys. Thereās a lot I havenāt shared on here about many of them. (<- Tired as hell most da time, so I cryptically post and leave.)
Iām excited/very happy that youāre interested in them though, and very grateful you decided to ask!
Some of them donāt have the Most figured out yet, as Iām a little (extremely) fixated on a select few. That being: Night, The Twins (Whooper, Parrow), and Phobos (Cleithro, Thalass, Monoph). Those ones have my attention most of the time.
I can probably start with Phobos, since youāre already familiar with Cleith a little bit, and later I can maybe post like.. Idunno a list of my ocās and one can pick out what sounds interesting? Iām always happy to answer questions, but it may take me a moment to respond at times. [sweats in how long it took me to reply to this.]
ANYWAYS enough of that rambling, onward to Different Rambling.
So, Phobos is a group of ocs that are based around fear(s) [gestures to the group name].
They originally were created as a WAW class abnormality for a Lobotomy Corporation role-play. They had a switch mechanic, where only one of the trio would be active at a time, and doing a certain work-type would get them to swap out to the next. Their goal was to capture employees and drag them into a space where their secret fourth, Nightmare, would then terrorize said employee before eating them. They feed off of emotions, but fear is their primary target.
Since then, they've had a lot of different things of exploring them individually and a bit collectively. Their names have been played around with and some of those mentions can be seen scattered throughout my blog, but I typically always default back to their original ones. Here's everything concerning their names (with some extra):
Monoph (They/It)
Monophobia is the word that their name is based off of, it is the "a morbid fear, or dread, of oneself, or of being alone, isolated, abandoned, and/or ignored."
Thalass (She/It)
Thalassaphobia is the world that her name is based off of, it is the "persistent, and intense, fear of deep bodies of water, such as the ocean, seas, or lakes." Which "can include fears of being in deep bodies of water, the vastness of the sea, sea waves, aquatic animals, and great distance from land." Though, it is not to be confused with Aquaphobia, the fear of water itself, though this can appear along side it.
Cleith (He/It
Cleithrophobia is the word that his name is based off of, it is "the fear of being trapped or locked in." This fear can be confused with Claustrophobia, and while similar, one relates to specifically physical location as a fear of small spaces. The other is "not necessarily tied to a location, but to a feeling as if you are trapped," which makes it a situational fear, rather than a space-specific one.
This is an important distinction.
From these names, is where you get the abbreviation down into simply "Monoph", "Thalass", and "Cleith". As it is⦠faster to type, or say, that than it is the whole phobia. These are things that have been stuck as simply being their names since the beginning of creation- and⦠honestly despite two attempts at giving them some approximation of a more "normal" sounding name, the abbreviations continue to stick to them the most.
Speaking of which, said "normalization" attempts were:
Monosilliph, Thalassamine, and Cleithrose - I will be real, I do not recall how I came up with these outside of smashing random sounds together mentally into whatever happened to "sound right". These have stuck⦠a little bit, and were to be used more "officially" within a role-play known as "Reyes Compendium" within my friend group on Discord. This was due to the fact that, given the role-play's setting, the trio (quartet) could not simply all be contained within one body like they had been in their Lobotomy Corporation variant.
Etterath Umrba, Anemoia Mare, and Ozurie Borea - These are Monoph, Thalass, and Cleith respectively. These names were made for the aforementioned role-play, intended to be disguised identities that they worked under. Since, in any world they are in, they always work for Nightmare, and they always have some hand in shady dealings or dark plots because of it. These ones have more meaning to them than the previous ones did, which those ones acted more as their "actual" names but anyways-
These were all pulled from "The Book of Obscure Sorrows"
Etterath - "The feeling of emptiness after a long and arduous process is finally complete---having finished school, recovered from surgery, or gone home at the end of your wedding--- which leaves you relieved that it's over but missing the stress that organized your life into a mission." [The Book of Obscure Sorrows]
Umbra - "the fully shaded inner region of a shadow cast by an opaque object, especially the area on the earth or moon experiencing the total phase of an eclipse." [Dictionary]
Anemoia - "Nostalgia for a time you never experienced" [The Book of Obscure Sorrows]
Mare - "Sea" [Latin]
Ozurie - "Feeling torn between the life you want and the life you have." [The Book of Obscure Sorrows]
Borea - "The northern winds."
There is a more recent thing of naming with the Trio, and that would be using the first part of their phobias as their name alongside with the Ancient Greek counterparts for this, or at least the best I was able to find and figure out as being such-
μĻĪ½ĪæĻ - Mónos Mono
θάλαĻĻα - ThĆ”lassa (sea)
ĪŗĪ»ĪµĪÆĻ - Cleo cleithro
This is because of a new role-play that they have been stuck into, which is the one I, my partner, and a mutual friend of ours, have been working on together called War With The Heavens, also known as Divisin as I like my shortened names teehee. I cannot give too much information on them there due to the fact that other friends follow this blog and they may see this.
Now that their different names are out of the way- [reaches into my wikipedia vault]
Cleith
He is typically associated with things such as snow, avalanches/rock slides, owls, snow leopards, traps, and eerie quietness. That still quiet you get during snowfall in the midst of winter.
Personality: Cold, distant, introverted, and calm. He tends to have a rather formal kind of attitude in how he portrays himself, from dress to speech. A favored pose in how to hold himself is with his head held high, shoulders squared yet relaxed, with arms folded behind his back. The look being completed with a calm, neutral, expression. While speaking he keeps his tone soft and pleasant, his expressions being similar. This is all so that he can lure people into a false sense of security with his seemingly infinite patience and helpful, nice, attitude.
His hunting style is that of a trapper, favoring playing the long game of luring someone into his traps rather than chasing them down and engaging in fights. He prefers to keep his hands relatively clean of such things, so the environment he has to work with is often studied and learned about thoroughly to use to his advantage. His favorite one being that of snowy forests/mountains.
However, given his work, he's often lonely as he never can allow himself to form any proper connections with anyone. So, if someone who can provide an interesting enough conversation to distract him can end up being spared. He is the most easily distracted of the three hunters, as he is not as attached to the group's overall goal. There is someone who has managed to catch his interest inherently upon meeting, that being Atilla, who seems to endlessly hold the creature's attention.
He's not content in his place within the group, but has no thought to try and leave- not that he ever could in some cases. The others in the group know how his softhearted tendencies and often get on his case about it, resulting in the relationship between him and the others being rather rocky and unpleasant at times.
Within Reyes Compendium: He is one of the owners of Club Spectre. He has a miserable time within the tropical environment of where the city Roseal is located. Would much prefer to be up in the mountain where there are colder climates that are better suited for his abilities.
He is not overly social during or outside of the work he does at Club Spectre, and is one of the trio that hunts the least. The environment around just isn't very well suited for it, so he does other things in the meantime while the other two get to do their hunts. Despite not being very social, he does go around and pay attention to who is, or is not, very well connected to others. So the other two know who to target.
Tends to spend some time within the Club giving minor scares to the guests and workers alike. Says he can't help it, but he does it quite intentionally. Both for the stated reasoning of amusement, and for to cause some spark of unease or fear. Even, if it might end up only momentary.
Within Lobotomy Corporation: The trio share one body here. Cleith is one of the states that Phobos switches into after a favored work type is done with Thalass. The containment would gain a layer of snow and ice within it. Far more focused on the goal, given its position here with no longer having the freedom of its own form like some other iterations have. He sits in quiet wait within the containment for those to step into the wrong spot of the snow when trying to perform work. Where he will then latch onto them and drag them underneath the snow. Burying them like one would be in an avalanche. He is the only one with a mechanic of being able to save an employee from his grasp- functioning similarly to Ice Queen. Someone goes in and has to fight him off while digging up their friend before they succumb to suffocation and the cold.
Thalass
She is typically associated with things such as the sea, squids, cephalopods, general sea life, and kelpie. The ocean and its dangerous beauty.
Personality: Loud, extroverted, friendly, and a charmer. She tends to have a more upbeat, party-type, energetic attitude in how she portrays herself. Thalass loves to get to know people and sweep them up in her energy. Very personable, very confident and self assured. A lot tend to like her, and that's how she lures people off into the sea. Sweeping them up in her energy and whisking them off into dangerous situations, where they often don't realize the danger until it's too late, much like riptides. She gets a certain joy out of successfully getting someone wrapped up in her charm and luring them into their demise.
Her hunting style is more active, going out into public spaces to seek out targets, more actively pursuing them and directing them to go where she wants, but she takes more of an ambush predator role with it. Her favorite environment is of course areas with access to bodies of water, riversides, lake edges, or beaches, and tends to act at night. She personally drags her prey out into the depths, finding the whole ordeal fun, and satisfying.
However, she's easily caught up by gifts of food items, and playing with her prey. If she finds you entertaining enough to toy with, and specially if you're one to end up gifting her different tasty foods, she might delay dragging you off just so that she can continue messing about and getting treats. Unlike Cleith though, she's more dedicated to the group's goal and so this will not necessarily keep you safe forever.
Thalass is quite content within the group, not being chided as much by Monoph, and would never think of trying to go against the others. Her distractions still cause friction with the other two but given that she is more on task than Cleith is, she is left be on it more often than not.
Within Reyes Compendium: She poses as a Lifeguard on the beaches of Haven by Roseal city, and is thriving within the tropical environment. She's extremely social and often comes by Club Spectre in order to assist with the late nights and mess with the guests. Along with to meet with Cleith for whatever information he has to share. She lures many to the beach at night, or simply hangs out there to look for any lone people wandering, so to drag them off discreetly. Bringing them to Nightmare, after nearly drowning them first.
Within Lobotomy Corporation: Thalass is one of the states that Phobos switches into after a favored work type was done with Monoph. The containment gains a layer of water within it, that gets deeper the farther away from the door you go. She drags employees into the water when the work result is bad, and you won't get them back. She is not much different than her other iterations, though she is far less hidden about her intentions.
They are typically associated with things such as shadows, fire, dark alleyways, concrete, tasmanian devils, bats, and empty parking garages/lots. The isolation one feels when going unseen within a crowed.
Personality: Strict, calculated, silent, and mean. They are a bitch. They tend to give off the air of someone who thinks themself higher than you, and they make little effort in hiding their distain towards attempts at having connection with them. Holding their head high, they often have a stoic expression paired with a piercing stare of annoyance being given to any they interact with. They, much like Cleith, tend to speak with low volume though they do not make their voice soft and words pleasant. They wonāt sweet talk you like the other two will. Instead youāll be demeaned and intimidated with thinly vailed insults. They are quite confidant and driven. They often keep away from interacting with too many people, instead choosing to observe from a distance.
They are an active hunter, but unlike Thalassā style of directly interacting with targets, they prefer to stalk them. Information given to them by the other two is used to pick their targets, and then theyāll find ways to isolate said target before they make their move. Whether that be by spreading rumors, luring into abandoned areas, or sabotaging connections, so be it. Youāll often never meet them until theyāve got you cornered.
Monoph is one for a bit of theatrics, and has a soft spot for physical fights. Though youāll never hear that be admitted to. They love to use the light and shadows as their playground when interacting with their prey, whispering phrases and scaring them. Along with, for as focused as they are with their work, if you can end up in a ātoo tired to attack any moreā draw with them, then they might just spare you and youāll of earned their interest. Now, it must be a complete and utter stalemate of a fight for you to earn their respect as an equal to them. For, any they defeat are simply weakling prey, and those who best them are opponents to defeat or avoid. The strange beast..
You must continue always getting into a stalemate each and every time one gets into a fight with Monoph. For the moment one side wins, is when you lose that intrigue in you.
Monoph is the leader of the group. They are wholly loyal to Nightmareās cause, making it horribly difficult to sway them away from their āpurposeā. They are strict in how they lead the group, and often chides the other two for their distractions and failures to follow or complete orders.
Within Reyes Compendium: They were rarely seen around at Club Spectre, instead being found most often at a fighting arena as a host, outside the boundaries of the city. They would prowl the streets at nights when a target had been located, disappearing out of sight again afterwards to bring them to Nightmare once cornered in a lonely street or alleyway. Monoph would meet with the other two to share informations and plans, along with checking in with them at random to make sure they were keeping on task. Often that was under request by Nightmare.
Within Lobotomy Corporation: Monoph is one of the states that Phobos switches into after a favored work type was done with Cleith. The containment gains a shadowed area and dimmed lighting, making it difficult to see the abnormality lurking within it. They swallow employees in darkness when the work result is bad, another one who wonāt give you a chance to get them back. They are not much different than their other iterations, though they here are far more direct about their distain towards others.
I think I shall stop here for now, another post will be made about Nightmare specifically a different time for that⦠well that guy has its own whole Long explanation for.
Apologies for taking so long to respond! I hope this gives a good idea of the trio specifically and that it is enjoyed! If there are any questions or requests for further elaborations then feel free to ask me such!
