Shabbat :D.
Shabbat [shuvah] shalom, y'all!!
To my jews: The HHDs are tough in smaller pockets of the diaspora, hope you have days off for kol nidre/yom kippur, and that you have an easy fast
To everyone: here's to all y'all being written well in the book of life!
I am hugging you all virtually unless you're shomer negiah then I'm bowing respectfully, cheers you fucks!
I love sukkot so much it's my fav holiday -- i might not have a lulav and etrog, nor ability to make a sukkah but that would never stop me from terrorising my goyim coworker's with fruits, and nuts based treats for them to enjoy confusedly
I wish you all at minimum half the joy i feel at our lil whimsy fruit hut holiday (even if our samaritan cousins make cooler sukkahs lol)
Cheers and have a joyous holiday!
Had some oven issues but it came out perfectly, shabbat shalom y'all!
Shabbat shalom, y'all -- my heart goes out to my Palestinian family who have been hit hard by the continued slaughter in Gaza, and have been pouring their hearts out doing advocacy on the local radio here, taking part in marches, and doing fundraising.
It's hard to see people framing anyone who shows sympathy for the Gazans being slaughtered as antisemites, especially as a Jew who wants the slaughter of my cousins to end.
I hope that the violence ends as soon as possible, please support your Palestinian friends and neighbors and support your Jewish friends who are against the illegal collective punishment being done to Palestinians in the name of retribution for the awful attack by Hamas
Pikuach nefesh, human life before all else. What we need more than anything right now is compassion and mutual aid for our Gazan friends in this time
I didn't want to drop 50 links so heres Vogue, of all publications, with a solid list if you want to help
The past 10 days have been among the darkest in the Middle East’s recent history, with innocent civilians in Palestine and Israel losing the
Sorry, I couldn't hear you over my Pokemon tablecloth (for shabbat use only ofc)
Happy simchat torah (unless yours is tomorrow in which case early chag simchat torah sameach to you) and shabbat shalom from my gay lil house uwu
I'm not the smartest person in the world, I don't know how to fix things in my circle of friends much less the world
That said, i DO know how to make bread; I've been making 2 challot every week of my life as long as I can remember, yet only during the start of the pandemic did i start handing out the second loaf to whoever wanted it-- less French toast for me, sure, but more fed neighbours during a hard time isn't something to sniff at, so I've continued it
Someone recently asked me why go through the effort of braiding a 6 strand challah just to give it away to someone who doesn't know anything about challah or shabbat... I didn't have an answer, it just seemed like the right thing to do? Bread is bread, and bread is delicious and fun to share
My challot aren't perfect (didn't have an extra egg on this one, for instance, nor did i have sumac for the za'atar) but they're fluffy, and pretty, and delicious
It's not much, just some eggs, water, flour, honey, oil, yeast, and salt, but it makes me happy to share, and i like to think someone is going to cut a slice or rip off a chunk and enjoy it with their coffee
I don't really have a point to this post except i hope you make your own version of that second challah today, we need more sharing in the cynical world
Anyway-- shabbat shalom y'all
The challot are not pareve don't tell the super frum community but they are stuffed with hierba buena and queso fresco, shabbat shirah means a lot this year, the mi chamocha will be sung not just to remember our past freedom, but hopefully for the imminent freedom of Palestinians under occupation
Bonus yalanji made with my Palestinian fam to try to cheer her up small
