Pranking a Prince
The bored and mischievous shade hovered over the Elven prince’s sleeping form for quite some time. Aurelien had been watching Nuada for days from the shadows where he could not see him. Oh, he was suspicious often enough, for Aurelien was quite adept at creating that feeling of being watched, but he never quite caught on. So long as the shade made certain his glowing red eyes were out of view, he was virtually undetectable, except by gut feelings and the hairs standing up on the back of one’s neck. But now he was ready to make an appearance...
Aurelien savored this time, truly. The time in between making the decision to play a prank and actually setting it into motion were sacred to him, and he even thought the anticipation was more fun than the actual results of the prank. Nevertheless, he decided that he might as well get on with it. Above the sleeping elf’s head he hovered, his glowing red eyes staring unblinkingly at him. Lying on his back, Nuada would certainly see them the moment he opened his own eyes. Without warning, Aurelien projected his voice to the elf as loudly as he could.
“The humans are coming, the humans are coming!”

“Right, so… this is very embarrassing. Humans… do not understand me. At all. So I make it a point to show myself only to those I know I can trust not to scream their fool heads off………… or POST ME ON YOUTUBE. But I am a curious sort and when I get bored I do stupid things, such as when I decided to peek in on this gentleman’s house. I did not know he had a video recorder at the time, but then Sri’hen found this video online and well… I am absolutely mortified. I shall have to be much more careful in the future.”
“My, my, look at this handsome fellow. He’s managed to keep some semblance of his human body together wonderfully well. I wonder how he does it. I myself cannot manifest bones. I have a hard enough time trying to give myself arms. Yes, and forget about legs. I gave up trying to force those appendages to keep their form ages ago. Perhaps there is some trick to it... Does anyone know how today’s modern shade can keep up a bit of his former corporeal appearance? I’d love to know. People simply don’t respond well to a smoky, amorphous aesthetic...”
