Tallstar sat in camp, a small ginger kit leaping clumsily around in front of him. The black and white leader chuckled as Firekit leapt for a small brown leaf and missed by a great deal, falling onto his side and squeaking as he did so.
“You go carefully there my little warrior,” the amber eyed tom said, smiling at his son.
Suddenly, a larger grey tabby came barrelling into Firekit with a loud, “Intruder! WindClan attack!” Tallstar immediately recognised the voice as that of Willowkit’s, Fallowleaf’s Daughter and Firekit’s adoptive sister.
“Hellow Willowkit,” the leader said, chuckling as the older kit pinned Firekit down against the grassy floor of camp, “Remember Firekit is younger than you so you have to be gentle with him.”
“Yes Tallstar!” Willowkit said as she raised her paws up, allowing Firekit to scramble to his paws and clumsily run over to Tallstar, hiding behind the much larger cat’s long black tail.
Tallstar shook his head lovingly and pushed Firekit gently out towards Willowkit, “You know she won’t hurt you Firekit,” he said quietly, licking his son’s ears, calming the shaking kitten down.
Willowkit nodded, “Yeah! You might not be my brother but you are my clanmate!” she says, protectively bringing her tail around the smaller kit and guiding him towards the nursery.
Tallstar watched the two kits walk together and his thoughts started to trail off into training Firekit, introducting him to Jake when he was a warrior, patrolling and hunting with his son.
All of a sudden, a loud cry rang out across the moor, a blood curdling shriek that could mean only one thing.
Tallstar leapt to his paws, blood pounding in his ears. He saw dozens of ShadowClan cats streaming into his camp.
‘How had they made it this far without detection?’ he thought, suddenly he remembered the small patrol he had sent out, only Pigeonwing and Applecloud were on that patrol. StarClan let them be safe.
His short train of thought was halted as battle cries rang out across camp, Claws meeting claws and teeth meeting fur.
Tallstar’s mind instantly flicked to Firekit. Did he make it to the nursery? He quickly dove out of the way of a puny ginger ShadowClan cat and looked towards the nursery. He immediately saw Willowkit standing protectively in front of a Firekit, a ShadowClan apprentice, not much bigger than her, standing opposing them.
Tallstar immediately pelted over and batted the black and white tom away.
“Go into the nursery!” he shouted to Willowkit, “Tell Fallowleaf that Firekit it with me!”
He watched to make sure Willowkit made it into the den before he grabbed the red tabby kit by his scruff and ran for his den, only next door, and placed the small kit inside it.
“Stay there for a bit my little warrior. Hide in the moss and do not make a single sound. I already lost Jake and I can’t lose you too,” Tallstar said, pressing his head against his son’s before covering him in moss and running out.
Tallstar was barely out of his den before he heard a deep voice spit “Leave the leader to me! You two go and try to drive out the warriors!”
Before he could turn his head to the sound, a strong force hit his back, driving the black bicolour into the dirt.
Immediately, Tallstar bunched up his legs and gave a massive push, attempting to throw the cat off.
The cat let go of Tallstar and managed to twist in the air, landing only a few fox lengths away.
Tallstar finally got a good look at the tom. He was a thick-set, large black warrior with a bloodstained white muzzle. He had a large, bloody gash running down his neck.
The bigger warrior hissed loudly, “You’re quite lanky for a leader?” he said, as he unsheathed his claws and padded slowly towards Tallstar.
Tallstar, growled at the cat. “It’s Blackfoot right? Deputy? It’ll be a pleasure putting you back in your place!” The leader leapt the deputy, lashing his claws down his cheek.
Adrenaline pounded through Tallstar’s body as the two wrestled, rolling through the WindClan camp, Blackfoot eventually coming out on top.
Blackfoot stood, once again, towering over the small leader. Both toms were panting and Tallstar felt his ear start to throb, blood streaming down his face.
Blackfoot raised his paw, as if he was about to strike a killing blow when a shriek rang out. Tallstar watched as Blackfoot’s paw went limp and his yellow eyes suddenly lost their hostile glow, only to be replaced with pure horror and worry, as he turned to face where the shriek came from.
Curious, Tallstar turned to see Deadfoot and Sorrelflame brutely attack a blue spotted tabby, who was losing badly. Blackfoot looked down to Tallstar and hissed, “This isn’t over,” he said before he leapt off the leader and raced over to defend the tabby tom.
Tallstar hissed at Blackfoot as he ran to assist his clanmate and stood himself up. But just as he stood up a massive force knocked him sideways and sent the leader rolling. Tallstar looked up to see a large brown tabby with ragged fur and a harshly bent tail.
“Brokenstar...” growled Tallstar, his eyes knowing dangerously, “How dare you bring your warriors into my camp! This is outrageous!”
Brokenstar laughed manically, “My clan is growing stronger by the minute Tallstar. We need your territory for hunting. I knew you’d never willingly surrender so I decided to give my warriors the extra training in battle,” he said, clawing Tallstar forcefully across his cheek, leaving a large bleed cut.
“You will never take WindClan’s territory!”
The two toms leapt at each other and went rolling through camp, claws flying and growling ringing out. Brokenstar suddenly pinned down the WindClan leader, digging his claws into the small cat’s neck.
A cry rang out that caused Tallstar’s heart to stop and his blood to run cold.
“Brokenstar! We found a kit in the leader’s den!”
Tallstar immediately tried to throw Brokenstar off him but the stronger leader only dug his claws in deeper.
Tallstar could only watch as Blackfoot carried out a shaking Firekit and placed him by Brokenstar.
“Firekit! NO!” Tallstar yelled, tears falling from his eyes.
“Tangleburr. Make sure Tallstar doesn’t get up. I want him to watch this,” Brokenstar said, his voice gruff as Tangleburr flipped Tallstar onto his stomach and pressed their paws into his shoulders.
Brokenstar went to grab Firekit by his throat but the little kit hissed and clumsily lashed his claws out.
Brokenstar chuckled, “My, my. You are quite the little warrior huh? You would make an excellent fighter.”
Tallstar hissed loudly as Brokenstar grabbed Firekit, “You dare harm him and I will take all of your nine lives!”
“Harm him?” Brokenstar said, an idea forming in his head, “As much as that would hurt you, I have a much better idea. I’m going to train this kit into a ruthless, blood thirsty monster and then I will send him to kill you. Oh how fun it will be to watch my son slice your neck open, not even remembering you!”
Brokenstar cackled as Tallstar tried to claw his way up but Tangleburr only dug her claws deeper into his back.
“ShadowClan! Chase them out!” yelled Brokenstar as he grabbed Firekit’s scruff.
“See you sometime soon Tallstar! Me and young...oh what was his name...Firekit will be back!” Brokenstar yelled as he walked out of camp, Firekit wriggling in his jaws.
Tallstar yelled and yelled until his throat was sore but nothing could bring his Firekit back, eventually Tangleburr let him up and started to chase him out, two others flanking the tortoiseshell.
‘I’ll be back for you Firekit,’ Tallstar thought as the ShadowClan cats drove him and what remained of his clan out of the clan territories, ‘I will be back and I won’t stop fighting for you.’
I had over half of this written out this morning and then my computer crashed on me! Sorry if the last scene with Brokenstar is a little rushed! I have a lot of homework but didn’t want to let you guys down 💗
