Naked 29 – 42
I am afraid of the light
Aye to all, sorry I hyped this shit up then went ghost. I ain't been strong, kinda been holding my art close to the chest under the excuse of "no one cares what you write." Maybe you're out there, maybe you need me, yea, you. So I'll try to be there for you and for me, maybe we don't need to feel so alone.
Does this look okay? This pen sucks but I love how it looks, but does it look okay to you?
My mirror has started to make noise.
I have this 6ft mirror i got out of a hotel dumpster. The hotel was replacing their room furnishings and was honestly handing them out. They had chairs, tables, and old mattresses and pillows I didn’t even go near. But I have always wanted a mirror could see my whole body in. And this one was free. A heavy moFo too. I wanted to take home two, but carrying the first one was enough to exhaust me once I got to my car. I didn’t even go back to tell the guy I was only getting the one. I loaded it and drove away.
Not saying it’s extremely heavy. It’s somewhere between 10 and 20 pounds, but just maneuvering a six foot by 2 1/2 foot oddly heavy object can get exhausting when you live in an apartment that is three flights up a rickety staircase that is clearly not “original to the building”. So just the one mirror.
It’s sort of situated between my bookcase and the wall. My bookcase is pulled out a little so the mirror leans and is not completely sandwiched between the bookcase and the wall. The bookcase is double sides. I have books on both sides and it’s only pulled out far enough for me to fit my body between the wall and the shelves to reach the furthest book. Sometimes that means pushing the mirror up against the wall and leaning up against it while reaching far literature.
Recently I’ve just pulled the mirror out from in between the bookcase and wall because my hair kept getting caught on the frame, or something. I think it would get caught and then immediately cut between the mirror and the frame of the mirror. I think. I could never find the hair that got pulled. If it even got pulled out. Maybe it just caught my hair and didn’t pull it out. It hurt so I moved it to not get hurt anymore.
Maybe it’s from moving more often, or the frame weakening, but I’m now pretty confident that my mirror is making noise.
It’s starts as a creak, like wood shifting. I have all wood floors that make lots of noise at every foot step, so that seams normal. The weird part is it made that noise as I was lifting it up and moving it out of the way. Now the frame does feel and look like wood, but has a was once nice sort of roughed up metallic paint look. So I just brushed that off as the frame. Until that same exact noise started repeating. I would catch it every now and again, but after I heard it that…close…it was the only thing I could hear. Again, it could just be the frame.
And that’s what I said it was, until I dropped the book. I’m a rush one morning, I was dressed and ready to go, but forgot to replace my book I take to work. I had finished the current one a couple days ago and kept forgetting and didn’t want to suffer through another lunch having to socialize when I could be hiding at my desk reading, so I shoved myself between the mirror and the bookcase to put the old book back and grab the next book. A Devine collection of classic poetry. Like a melody to the eyes when read. I also had my winter coat on, it was winter at the time, and was in no worry of catching my hair. I figured I could sacrifice a little fake fur that rimmed the hood of my off-brand svviss arnny coat. But I put my mittens on too soon, and the poems plummeted. My eyes watch as they plunged to the floor, but landed right up against the bottom of the mirror making a thud I could feel through the mirror pressed up against my back. And then again. And again. Three times. Once when the book hit the mirror. Once as I picked the book up. And once when I shifted the mirror so it was leaning and not straight up and down. I plugged my ears with as much mitten as I could and rushed out the door.
The poetry’s not helping at work today. My mind is sort of fixated on the mirror. It made the same thud noise. I swear it did.
The looming: The drip.
First seen right in front of me. A random dark droplet that falls somewhere in front of your path. Progressively dripping closer and closer to your next step. Never dripping from the same ceiling, or surface above you; but always dripping in front of your current walking path.
Survives for the duration of time it takes a droplet of the most prominent liquid in the area to fall at terminal velocity from the above surface it has chosen to start at, to the bottom surface. Basically, how long it takes a droplet to fall from the ceiling to the floor. The time of a drip. The drip. That is the life span of this creature. Its impact is horrendous if used properly.
Reflection mapping is a relatively new development in film and cinematography. The perfectly round reflection of a singular moment in space and time is a rare instance. I’m not talking about the closest to perfect with the thought of robot error in mind; I am talking about a universally perfect reflection of every single thing in that droplets life span. So much so that if…if the droplet is caught…in a way…with equipment…you would have complete, total, atomic level control of a singular moment of the time of a droplet to drip and reflect the universe back. Infinite universe control of a moment.
But if not caught, with equipment, but instead just touched, by a being, or creature, that could be caught in the path between the top surface and the bottom surface of the path of this universe selfie, well, no one has ever made mention of that happening so we don’t know what happens if that happens cause it hasn’t happened. 🤷♀️
Other.
