Light Unicorn and Shadow Pegasus

The Light Unicorn and Shadow Pegasus are mythical equine Rahi that originated in ancient Western Uniki culture (basically Ireland but for Matoran).

In ancient times, no Matoran knew of the existence of Avtok (the Spirit of Light) and Kraatus (the Spirit of Shadow). Matoran who lived in Western Uniki believed light, day, shadows, and nighttime came from the Light Unicorn and Shadow Pegasus. They chose gods in the shape of equines because of how valued Smith Horses were in Uniki.

The Light Unicorn comes out during the day and provides light and day on the land, and has the power to see in all Electromagnetic waves. The Shadow Pegasus comes out during the night to paint over the daytime sky with the nighttime sky, and has the power of nightvision and echolocation.

The two equine deities can fuse together to become one single equine during a Solar or Lunar Eclipse, this Equine being called the Twilight Pegacorn.

During a Lunar Eclipse (left), the Unicorn dominates the Pegacorn’s form as a way of representing the fact that the sun dominates the moon, giving the Pegacorn form a dull, rainbow mane representing how the moon becomes colorful on a Lunar Eclipse, and light grey armor as its primary color.

During a Solar Eclipse (right), the Pegasus takes over as a way of representing the moon dominating the sun, so the Pegacorn lacks a colorful mane and has dark gray as its primary armor color.

Matoran astronomers have predicted that on the 8th month of a Terra-Magnan year, a unique Solar Eclipse will be seen throughout all of Zakara.

In some reinterpretations, the Light Unicorn and Shadow Pegasus are depicted as only one god who changes form every day and night, the Twilight Pegacorn being the dawn/dusk form.

These creatures do not have a population range on the map because they are not a species and are in fact considered cryptids. Their conservation is also unknown because some Matoran have reported sightings of one or both of these equines, but these sightings were not supported with proof. There are Matoran out there who currently believe in these deities.
