Curse of Strahd really does wonders with characters

Does Katsuya have as strong of a bond with his cards as Yugi does? Or is it just a small handful of his cards?
Or Kaiba for that matter?
Katsuya and Kaiba and any other Shadow Touched who isn't an item holder can and will connect with their decks in a way that non-Shadow Touched cannot. They instinctively tap into the ancient magic. They will find cards that resonate with them and be drawn to those cards. For Katsuya it's the luck and Red Eyes cards, Kaiba his Blue Eyes.
Item Holders can connect to any card while they're holding their items, but will still connect to those cards that resonate with their souls when they're not carrying them, for example Yugi and magicians and Pegasus and his toons.
Non-Shadow Touched play the game without any of this connection. That doesn't mean they're unable to play the game at a high level, it just means that they won't be able to do things like call their Ka Beasts.
