the ark always feels a little cold, and when lil baby shadow was first released from his tube full of warm nutrients he would always be shivering with big wet eyes and so maria made him a lil jacket from one of her socks like this

they had to swaddle little hoglet shadow to trim his claws and the entire time he acted like he was dying and then he'd spend the rest of the day under maria's arm sulking

I've already talked a lot about the parallels between shadow+maria and tails+sonic, but heres another one that's a little more silly

maria finding put her new baby brother is a mobian hedgehog and so collecting every book she can find on mobian history and hedgehogs etc etc to make sure she can be the best big sister ever and take care of him

sonic adopting tails, a fox kit, and not knowing shit about foxes and not realising that because they're different species they're going to function a bit differently and need different things/react differently to certain situations. their whole childhood is a case of trial and error

thinking about sonic and tails and tails and shadow

sonic is teaching tails how to do a fun little dance and shadow is fucking seething in the background and he ends up snapping and calling them childish and stupid and it's a waste of time and he leaves and he's so fucking mad about he ends up punching the walls of his room and trashing the place

he doesn't quite realise why he's so upset he refuses to fully acknowledge it but that was HIS and MARIA'S thing. she would teach him all the cool and hip dances and they'd put on music and dance around their room when shadow wasn't in testing and maria wasn't bed ridden, and they would plan on joining all the dance competitions when they finally made it to earth. it hurts so so bad and he fucking hates that tails can learn his stupid fucking tik tok dances with his big sibling while shadow CANT

gerald tells maria the experiment is a hedgehog, two hours later maria can be spotted carrying every book about hedgehogs and hedgehog mobians on the ARK as she runs back to her room

YEAH.... she is going to be so so good at being a big sister and taking care of her baby brother!! I don't know how space colonies work but I'm going to assume they got supplies delivered every now and again. whenever gerald was putting in the order, she would also demand certain things be added for shadow that nobody else ever even considered. "what do you mean, he needs a quill brush? we have hair brushes here" NO he needs a special kind otherwise it won't do the job properly and it could damage his quills!! put it on the lists NOW!!!
