Coffee of the Day : Old school 4 September 2015

I think I picked this up on one of my first non-school trip to Chicago, back in '92. KMFDM’s MONEY had just come out (or was about to) becaause I picke that up at WAX TRAX, too, along with a bunch of stickers, and cut-out vinyl.

Funny, largely unrelated story. Long before YouTube there was a cable channel called The Box. You called up, put in a code for the video you wanted, and then it would in the order things were requested, like a jukebox, and they’d charge $1.50 to your phone bill. I’d go over to my, at the time, girlfriends and record videos from there and leave money for her parents. One of the videos I taped was Money.  As it turns out her paren’t didn’t know about The Box. They thought I was making phone sex calls.

Coffee of the Day : ebbhead 3 September 2015

I know I saw this concert in 1992, but it’s not listed on the official list on http://www.nitzer-ebb.de, I’ll have to talk to my my friend Doug McCarthy about that. I know it was ‘92 because I got through MOST of the school day without incident but then had to writ something on the blackboard for English, and my teacher saw the fuckhead on the back of the shirt and said “take that shirt off or put your jacket on. Wait, stop. Just put your jacket on.” She’s a sharp woman.

I spent the next bell chatting with the hippy substitute teacher about how he couldn’t believe I didn’t get sent home. Then we he saw I was reading The Story of O and he recommended some other books. In retrospect a really inappropriate conversation.

Incidentally the concert was great. Ethyl Meatplow opened and just blew my mind. I’d been to punk shows, I’d been to industrial shows, I’d been in pits, but to this day it ranks among the highest-octane performances I’ve ever seen.
