Terpy, what's up with DMC and female characters. I mean I read the reblog about how DMC's female characters are treated narratively but what sparked this?
The blog post was from last year. I was just thinking about it as it popped up in my notes from someone browsing my tag. I’ve had DMC on the mind since I’ve been getting asks about my character, the role of its female cast, and vaguely related, the inherent misogynoir present in media. Nothing more than that.
People legit out here mad about Lotura. Like guys, I prefer Shallura myself, but Lotura teasing was well done. Just be happy our girl is getting focus in the narrative. Larry is just annoying and he has no hope because at best she sees him as an ally/friend/comrade but at worse (and how I personally see him) an asshole who won't go away (re the flirting). And Kevin is just a no. He's not really interested in anything than that Blade stuff, which I get but he also left Voltron so....
I’m just saying people need to realize you could do a lot worse in a cannon ship, especially coming from these writers (Korra anyone?). Lotura has been written well so far, so if it is in fact endgame, just enjoy the ride and write and draw your own ships. Like not being cannon has never stopped folks so idk why it such a big deal now.

^^^ This fandom really banks on that age discourse card to sink a ship and here it’s especially dumb because as was noted in the post the writers aren’t gonna depict a budding romantic interest if both parties weren’t of the right ages. AND they themselves wouldn’t be teasing it in interviews and shit. The he’s manipulating her and playing her argument has no legitimate proof yet they say it so assuredly like they got work at Dreamworks in the morning, and then when that doesn’t work we’re rushing headlong into nonsense like they’re related even though they have canonically shown that Allura and Lotor’s parents have no blood relation to each other.
Like fuck just say you don’t like the ship and go! The tumblr mindset of needing some WokeBaeSJCoin bullshit to justify the damnation of a shit they dislike is so performative and transparent. So yeah no, just like that reblog said you have black girls coming up now having to contend with yt writers only putting characters into shit for woke bae coins and little else, backburning them until they are irrelevant and then ultimately killing them because that’s edgy and grimdark and ultimately makes for ‘deep’ storytelling or whatever is going on with this generation of hack writers.
Like I thought this was something you’d only see in things aimed at adults, but yeah no it’s a little terrifying that this is the kind of message being pushed more and more into something that’s for a Y7 audience.

Alternatively(and rarely) a black woman finds someone who is her equal, who is perfect for her in every way and he’s either playing her, stuck between picking her or his ex Becky Alabaster(who he will always choose) or if nonee of those apply and he’s got no baggae and is good will die anyway, if she also doesn’t die with him.
And your final option is to just not exist, you just aren’t important enough to have a story sorry, there’s a black guy here tho! :D
