Jack sat contemplative at his desk, absently turning his own compass over and over in his hands, gaze fixed on the maps layed out in front of him. An island that can't be found on ordinary charts. Gold enough to keep a man flush for the rest of his life. All greatly appealing prospects for a crew who hadn't seen a decent prize in weeks, who were growing restless, if not downright frustrated, with their young captain, and who needed to be placated before the atmosphere aboard the Black Pearl became even more tense. The legend of the Isla de Muerta was a final gambit, a bone thrown to the rabid pack of dogs that were his crew, as Hector so eloquently put it. And yet one of the few men on board this ship Jack would consider a true friend was here counselling him against it.
“ You're saying we shouldn't go. ” A pause as Jack met Bill's gaze, wanting to take his concerns seriously. The reality, unfortunately was much more complicated than that. “ I've already let the cat out of the bag to Hector, William. He's not going to be easy to talk down. The men have half the treasure spent already. ” Trying to sway them from this course would arguably be more dangerous than just seeking the damned island out and discovering what the fuss was all about. “ But they're just stories, are they not? One last ditch ghost story from the Aztecs to spook the European navies off of their shores. Not... magic. ”
