This one had been following him for a while now.
Grimm failed to notice at first-- suddenly, lurking in the nearby shadows cast by the moonlight, there was just a flash of odd color in his peripherial vision, as though whatever it was simply materialized. He took care to feign ignorance and continue on his way, and so too did the unidentified being.
A human? Grimm couldn’t be sure. Perhaps it was one of those special magpies; only the best and most talented of the soft species warranted the title, if he recalled correctly... and the thing trailing him certainly looked soft, despite its bright discoloration.
While intriguing at first, eventually this silent game grew boring, and Grimm stopped in his tracks, not even bothering to cast a glance over his shoulder as he addressed his newfound shadow.
“It will do you no good, trailing me,” he said evenly. “I hope you weren’t looking for directions. I’m afraid I just got the both of us lost.”
Well, that wasn’t exactly true, but it wasn’t like his shadow needed to know that.
