they wanted opa to be real…
“Merry Christmas, Dad— This year, you unwrap the gift of being an Opa."
------------------------------
It was a gift eight years and nine months in the making.
Keeping it a secret had been a feat in itself—Armin struggled to hold back his excitement, and Annie’s pronounced pregnancy belly nearly gave them away more than once.
But the moment made it all worthwhile. When Annie lifted the blanket from her baby’s face and handed Brita to her father for the very first time, the look on his face said it all...
The difficult eleven-year journey of forgiveness and reconciliation between Annie and her father had paved the way for this moment. And now, seeing him embrace the joy of becoming a grandfather—an Opa—marked another new beginning for Annie, her daughter, and their relationship with him.
Though Annie still carried echoes of pain and loss from her own childhood—ones she would likely continue working through for the rest of her life—she also felt a quiet, hopeful happiness. This time was different. From birth, Brita’s experiences with her grandfather would be filled with love and joy in ways Annie’s had never been.
It was bittersweet— for both Annie and her father —carrying the weight of everything they had endured: the pain, the healing, the long journey.
And yet, in that mix of tears and smiles, of past wounds and newfound joy, it was all worth it.
In the end, it wasn’t the gift of a grandchild that mattered most—it was the gift of forgiveness, the gift of reconciliation, and the gift of second chances and new beginnings...

The Calix Animi Crew!
(Ofc left to right👇)
Stamnos
The brawn of the group. Is always ready to leap (or hurdle, whichever comes first) headfirst into battle.
Was born with the strength of an ox, and is always willing to prove it.
Has heart as much as he does muscle. Despite being one of the more rough and tumble members, he still made sure that everyone’s spirits are high. So he was pretty loved by lots of the Calix Animi. Though Chalice finds him a bit reckless., she appreciates how he gets the job done.
Headcanon VA: Kevin Michael Richardson
Vasiliki
Astral expert and occasional struggling merchant.
They met the Calix Animi when he tried to swindle them out of a few gold coins with their fortune telling. It didn’t go as they planned, but Chalice found potential in their quick-thinking nature as well as their knowledge of the Astral Plane.
They often use contraband artifacts they “bartered” to peer into the Astral Plane and its delicate balance, usually to keep track of lost souls, but their other main use of magic is creating illusions and clones of themself to confuse foes (and sneak a few snacks when nobody’s looking).
Headcanon VA: Avi Roque
Ladelo & Soupina
• Twin practitioners that help in healing warriors after getting their souls back from particularly vicious enemies.
• Soupina is more of a healer for the soul. Sees the art of dance and “magic healing crystals” as the best medicine. Can be pretty uptight with her methods.
• Ladelo prided himself on physical prowess along with keeping everyone’s porcelain and metal bodies in pristine condition.
• Headcanon VA: Elsie Lovelock (Soupina) and Matthew Moy (Ladelo)
Elder Potts
A retired captain of the Flask Island guard who worked with the Grand Goblet. After Goblet’s death, he became a full time mentor to chalice, teaching her everything he knew about combat and how to use her Super Arts for good. He also taught her the history of the Calix Animi, though he tended to forget a few little details.
Despite his general-esque tendencies, he acted as a bit of a father figure towards the other Calix Animi leaders, especially Chalice, who used to refer to him as “gramps” as a kid, which he never seemed to mind,
Had a bit of a distrust towards people outside the kingdom, but Chalice’s curiosity and diplomatic attitude helped nudge him a little out of his shell.
Got his handle broken saving a farmer , his family, and his livestock from a house fire.
Headcanon VA: Joe Hanna
Opa
The youngest member of the Calix Animi
One of LC’s closest friends and also her sort of student in combat. They met when Chalice helped him fend off some bullies, and they bonded over their desires to prove themselves to their homeland.
• Was an orphan raised by plate priests who taught him to uphold the values and traditions of Flask Island. He was bombarded with long-ass lectures and history books, inevitably longing for a life of adventure and all the fighting of monsters that his peers found to be “brutish”. He thought his dreams would come true after joining the Calix Animi, but reality came to bite him with all the lost souls and destruction caused by demons and other enemies.
Had a bit of a friendly rivalry with Leki, whom he saw as a “show off” and they’d often get into contests to see who was the strongest or the most daring.
Headcanon VA: Atticus Shaffer
Spara
Member of a warrior tribe of blades, forks, and knives who believed in talking with spears. She and her people were very territorial and thus very reluctant of helping the Calix Animi in defeating the Devil. However, Spara decided to join them after seeing Hell’s forces were expanding to other lands.
A pretty close comrade of Chalice’s (in more ways than one…), often helping her with battle strategies and in return, Chalice showed her how there is more out there. Spara was rather put off by Chal’s optimism, but she still appreciated her ability to see the good in others when she couldn’t.
Headcanon VA: Kirby Howell Baptiste
Legendary Chalice
Latest in a long line of leaders of the Calix Animi, a group of warriors tasked with keeping the mortal plane safe from demonic forces. Each generation of her bloodline were given astral powers to give them an advantage against the unknown.
A brave and loyal soul always trying to help anyone she could as leader. But she was also curious about the magic of her ancestors and the lands her father, Grand Goblet, explored, often getting into more trouble than she asked for.
Tends to be in her element when fighting, but is wary of killing her foes, and she always felt she was’t living up to her father’s legacy.
Befriended a young demon once but ended up betraying them to protect her home, which was riddled with fear of demons and their strange magic. As a result, that same demon ended up becoming the king of his kind!
After years of war against him, the king of demons managed to destroy Chalice once and for all, and scattered pieces of her body and soul where no one could find them, with some getting lost in the deepest corners of the mortal plane. The angels tried rebuilding her with the pieces they could find, yet only succeeded in bringing her back as a child with no memory of her past life.
VA: Grey Delisle (would probably sound like Daphne from Scooby Doo)
Ace
Chalice’s shield familiar (one of the Super Arts from the DLC) meant to be her protector and scout for demonic activity. When they meant, they instantly took a liking to one another, like a young puppy meeting its mother for the first time.
Acts like a sort of pet towards Chalice, talking through cooing noises and keeping her company when she’s feeling down. After LC was destroyed, the Devil trapped the poor thing in a vial to shield his own heart (pun not intended). But that vial ended up being smashed by Miss Chalice when she was exploring an old temple, and Ace couldn’t help but believe her mistress has come back to do good like she used to, much to MC’s confusion.
As Chalice’s familiar, Ace was responsible for protecting Chalice as well as delivering spells and secrets to other members of the CA. She also has the ability to change size and spit out magic of her own to ward off foes.
Headcanon VA: Kari Wahlgren (as chattering noises)
Leki
Nephew of the king of Flask Island. After the death of his father, caused by the same demons who killed the Grand Goblet, Leki drowned his grief with velvet, jewels, and other luxuries. Annoyed by his nephew slowly detaching from reality, the king sent him to join the Calix Animi so he’d be more useful, and to get him out of his nonexistent hair.
Had a major crush on Chalice and trained whenever she passed by or went headfirst into battle just to impress her. Thankfully he does get over this when he (eventually) saw she liked him as a friend.
A bit of a trickster in battle. Tends to use wit and some leftover fortunes to turn the tides in the team’s favor.
Headcanon VA: Atticus Shaffer
Kari
Childhood friend of Chalice who was an avid learner of magic used by the Calix Animi. As she was from a family of chemists who helped create the potion the CA used, she learned a whole lot of secrets to make their powers more effective.
She and Chalice were very close as kids, often sneaking around temples and conjuring spells together, but Chalice ended up becoming too busy with training to play. As a result, Kari became a little too excited when Chalice recruited her for the Calix Animi, hoping to catch up on old times.
Headcanon VA: Candi Milo
Mezze
• Prophetess/priestess of fFlask Island.
• Opa’s mother figure who taught him everything she knew about spirituality.
• Before Opa joined the Calix Animi, she frowned upon him taking part in “unnecessary” violence. But she eventually saw how much Opa has longed to grow so she decided he could find friends in the e group. Also, she joined to keep an eye on his more spontaneous tendencies😅.
• Uses her skills from the temple to discover prophecies that the CA have to fulfill or undo, often those involving certain doom.
• Probably the most sane person in the group.
• Headcanon VA: Lisa Hannigan
Globeulous
• Flask Island’s resident blacksmith-in-training.
• Came from a long line of blacksmiths who forged weapons for the CA. His older siblings saw him as too weak for this line of work and wanted him to be their assistant, but he soon joined Chalice and her friends to prove them wrong.
• A stickler for keeping his creations in the best possible condition, keeping tools and whetstone on his person at all times.
• Headcanon VA: Phil Lamar
Carvela
• Enjoys swordsmanship as her main means of fighting, though a lot of her teammates find her obsession with blades rather excessive.
• Has a pretty close cool uncle relationship with Stamnos, with their shared love of fighting and all.
• Headcanon VA: Nika Futterman
✨BONUS✨
(Tara Style!!!)
We just recieved a phone call...
My german grandfather died.
Opa had been feeling sick over the last week, and got into the hospital a couple days ago. I think he died in his sleep last night.
He was 90 years old and had been healthy just until the very end. I'm just thankful he didn't suffer that long.
The last time I saw him was during his 90th birthday, me and my family traveled from Italy for this occasion and celebrated with the rest of my family, including my aunt that came from Australia.
I had made him a little wooden badger, since he loved badgers and little birds.
I'm glad that we had such a happy last memory before he departed.
I'll miss you, Opa. I hope you see lots of birds and badgers from wherever you are, and that you meet all your loved ones.
Hast du schon mal überlegt, dass du noch immer trauern könntest?
- Nein, weil ich weiß: damit höre ich niemals auf!
