I missed this part, but I’d be very careful drawing conclusions from tweeted assumptions and likes. All of these matters are very sensitive, particularly for those involved. I really applaud what she is doing - it takes a courageous person to break the ban and I am so glad someone is doing it - but people can only speak for themselves where it concerns such sensitive things, I feel. It seems like she is talking to everyone involved to make sure what she can say in official statements, and so I would base myself on whatever official statements will come out of this in the end, in a court case or an enquiry, and not let my imagination get way with things.
That said, I do believe many of the artists on the X factor, like lots of others in the entertainment industry unfortunately, experienced abuse - emotional abuse at the very least to make them feel like they had no options, but also physical: the work rhythm they were exposed to was horrendous, exhausting them, and their contracts exploitative. We’ve been watching it and complaining about it for years. It’s far from crazy to think more went on in the case of One Direction - this golden milk cow had to stay “under control” at all cost, and it will have gone far, no doubt. I have been suspecting for years that serious, morally questionable and perhaps even criminally liable things went on behind the scenes, but it really is their story to tell.
Speculations and likes on Twitter and more speculations are not the way to go about this. I for one, will not go into that nor draw any conclusions from that. Let’s just keep an eye on how this evolves. Simon is scared, that’s clear, and my suspicion is he has reason to. I believe Rebecca’s story, I believe she is doing the right thing and I wish her success. I also hope Rebecca will respect the privacy of all involved and gets everyone’s permission for anything she does expose about what happened to others behind the scenes. Even more, I hope the 1D guys get to tell their own story one day - whatever they want to reveal of it. They may not want to and that’s a valid choice too.
