“Reddish is my own adaptation of Fellswap, which, although it started focusing on the skeleton brothers and their pets (reddish owners), ended up developing into a complete universe with adaptations to the world (surface & underground) and its characters.”

Toriel: Queen of Monsters
Originally, Toriel was a righteous and motivated queen, always active in her job of caring for her people. She fervently believed in a bright future where monsters could be on the surface again, but tragedy broke her spirit, filling her with hatred and resentment. Especially against compassion, which turned to weakness in her eyes, so she decided to change her way of being… and that of everyone else as well.
A controlling and abusive leader; her word is law and the royal guard takes care of that. Obsessed with the idea of making her kingdom strong and powerful for the "future war" against humans; imposed a strict control over the life of her people. Between murmurs from the darkest corners, you can hear that she lost her mind.
Asgore: Ex King / Caretaker of The Ruins
The total opposite of his wife. While she was fierce and determined, he was calm and meditative. Gentleness in person and, for the same reason, not the best suited to lead a kingdom in a war, but with his partner by his side, they managed to recover and watch over their people in harmony.
The tragedy was a hard blow for him too, but it was even worse for him to see how it affected Toriel's judgment. He tried to bring her compassion back, but he lacked the authority to face her. The arguments between them escalated and Asgore never managed to get to her, specially when he saw what she was capable of in the name of his revenge campaign.
He refused to do what she ordered, so he was considered useless and unnecessary for the kingdom. He had to flee for his life and that led him to the Ruins.
While Toriel channeled her misery into hatred, Asgore turned his into sadness. His life was shattered and he couldn't do anything to save what was left of it, so the depression and isolation only deteriorated his mind.
Frisk: the Dead Angel // MK: the Dead Prince
Really good children. Both believed to be the angel and hope that would save monster kind and return them to the surface. They were adopted made heirs of the royal family once found.
Both kids enjoyed a happy life with their parents while it lasted (wich was some years and the reason they are older).
Even so, they tried and failed the whole "monster with a human soul" to try and free monster kind, who ended up with both their deaths: the tragedy that broke the Queen and King.
With their deaths, the rupture of the royal family was inevitable, as well as the beginning of the queen's thirst for revenge.
IMPORTANT: In this story, there is no Temmie/Flowey Role, so no meta characters or outside influence, as well as no resets. The seventh human is not a player, is a character like everyone else, with only one chance/route.
🔺The corruption of the queen
Toriel in her grief decided that monsters were weak and that caused the death of her children.
"Revenge against human kind" is her greatest motivation and what ended up corrupting her; so even tho she claims that she wants the best for her people, the reality is that she only seeks her own gain.
The kingdom is in a constant "state of emergency", all prepared for the imminent war that is always haunting the mind of their queen. Everyone must be ready to fight and those who cannot be soldiers must work and dedicate themselves to serving the cause.
"The ruler provides, but also controls"
Everyone have what is necessary to live, except the decision of how to do so.
If you did not manage to enter the guard, you will be assigned the job that best suits you, regardless of whether you want to do it or not.
This worked in the beginning: once the king "abandoned" his duty and the queen promised to do her best to free them, everyone agreed to make sacrifices. But when hope was high, the humans stopped coming, leaving them in need of only one more soul so that the reward for their effort could finally arrive.
Then the wait began, which after years and years of nothing, eroded everyone's morale, especially because they were forced to be constantly vigilant for a war that no one believes is going to come anymore.
🔺What happened to Asriel?
Asriel, the Exiled Prince
A total jerk. The queen gave him to one of the royal guards when he was born, because she wanted him as far from the capital as possible.
He was raised by the bunnies of Snowdin. Everyone in town knows he is the prince and he takes advantage of that, doing what he wants.
Even so, he's forbidden to leave the town and recent his mother for abandoning him.
While there isn't much he can do in such a small and humble place, that doesn't stop his bad behavior, giving eternal trouble to the Royal Guard.
Totally have a crush for Shaky, but he is a big BIG bully, so he still acts like a jerk with them.
Asgore has no idea that Asriel is his son, although he does know that there is a kid in Snowdin who is known as the prince.
Toriel kicked him out of the capital probably in the early stages of her pregnancy, so neither of them knew he was coming, and since he doesn't want to know about the kid (It's painful to even consider where it came from) his madness doesn't allow him to consider it too much either. His only source of information is the voice behind the door, as well as his only friend.
🔺The passage through the Ruins
As stated before, the conditions in which Asgore found the seventh human were precarious.
Shaky lived with Asgore for a considerable amount of time (several months, but less than a year). Never in their entire life the human had been able to live in such a comfortable way and with such a caring being as a guardian.
Asgore didn't want to let Shaky go (and the kid didn't really want do so either), but in a moment of clarity he understood that he couldn't condemn a child to his precarious lifestyle, so taking his friend's word for it, he let them go in the hope that they could get out of there.
Of course, the human didn't want to leave his side to walk into the unknown when Asgore told them, much less did they understand why he wanted them to return to the surface. But begging led to nothing and they ended up in the forest of Snowdin, where they ended up paralyzed by fear and cold, until Batchis led Papyrus to them.
