when he first started smoking it was a pack of winstons he'd stolen from monica
he fucking hatessss silent treatment. he's an arguer so he just wants every to scream back at him !!!
when it comes to fight or flight, he's fight 100%
especially when its a fight he knows he wont win
bro loves picking fights he cant finish for some reason
he's got lots of reasons for it
but i feel like he just wants to feel something.
living in a household like that makes you numb, especially when you're a caretaker and it's not like you have time to be upset.

hc that Mickey Milkovich has had the same phone for years and Ian is like “Mick, that phone is literally ancient you know you can get a new one” and Mick is all like “fuck you gallagher it’s perfectly fine it stills works” but it takes him 10 minutes to type one word and it doesn’t update anymore and also the battery drains within an hour
do you have any angsty headcannons about Lip (maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think the trauma/abuse he’s been through has been slept on by most of the fandom and despite his flaws I sympathize with him a lot and think he deserves comfort)
hi anon! so sorry for taking so long to get back to you! thank you so much for asking; of course i have sad lip thoughts. i love my boy lip and i totally agree that he's been through a lot and deserves empathy. my little guy...
lip hcs:
as a little kid who experienced both homelessness and food insecurity, lip is never able to shake the anxiety that comes along with never having enough. even after they move into aunt ginger's house for good, and fiona drops out to keep them all fed and housed, lip can't stop feeling like the other shoe's going to drop. for years, he had panic attacks when the fridge got a little too empty, did careful math to ration out their money, and stashed granola bars and rice and peanut butter in various places around the house, just in case. when fiona finds out about his food hoarding and confronts him about it, his first instinct, of course, is to get angry and defensive - but when her voice goes all soft and comforting, he realizes he can't stop shaking. people don't tend to think lip's an anxious guy, but really, he's just good at hiding it.
like debbie and carl, lip also needed braces as a kid, but never asked or said anything about it because he knew they couldn't afford it and didn't want to put added stress on fiona. he didn't get actual professional dental care until he started developing chronic migraines from his wisdom teeth growing in as a teenager. (if i'm not mistaken, he got them removed in s1 ep1). his lower teeth always remain a little bit fucked up. he's super insecure about them. when he sees carl and debbie icing their faces after getting their braces tightened, there's a not insignificant part of him that feels like an embarrassed little kid again, mouth full of crooked teeth that colin milkovich always teased him about. a little kid with one more need unmet.
when he was little, before he realized frank and monica were pieces of shit, but after he was old enough to realize that they were supposed to be his parents, he wanted them so so badly to love him. but fiona was always frank's favorite, his responsible, spitfire, beautiful little girl, and ian was the cute, tiny baby, monica's mini-me, and even though neither of them really cared, it tore lip up inside that he was nobody's favorite. he tries not to be resentful, but it hurts. he's brilliant and funny and smart; why isn't he good enough for either of them to stick around? to love? to put him first? as he grows up, he comes to realize that being frank and monica's favorite is not a good thing at all. still, he can't help carrying around that old, aching hurt.
frank gives lip his first beer when he's nine years old. fiona's out at a rare sleepover, the little ones are asleep upstairs, and frank's throwing a rager for his friends and suddenly has the time for him. he gives him a can and teaches him how to chug, which makes everyone laugh and cheer. frank even hauls him up onto his shoulders, crowing "that's my boy!" like a real father should when he's proud. lip feels on top of the world for about an hour and a half, after which he pukes his guts up in the kitchen sink, alone. by then, frank is already passed out on the living room floor. he spends the next day feeling awful, but he doesn't forget the gleam of pride in his father's eyes. it makes it kind of worth it.
like liam, lip also used to get nightmares as a kid, stemming from the terrifying noises of vehicles and music and shouting outside the car window when he, ian, and fiona used to live in a car. he has incredibly vivid dreams, which translates to incredibly vibrant nightmares. like liam, lip also used to hide himself somewhere small and safe when he woke up scared. as a child, that place used to be fiona's arms. when he feels like he's too old for that, though, his go-to spot is his closet. muffling his sobbing and hyperventilating behind his palms while curled up and shaking in the corner of the closet becomes a common occurrence, even as he grows up. it tapers off once he gets sober, but every once in a while, tami will wake up to him cramming himself in a tiny corner of their bedroom, breathing hard.
mini hcs:
lip never really had a childhood stuffed animal because any toys they came across as little kids automatically went to ian.
when he tries to infodump about stuff he learns at school to his siblings, more often than not, they playfully tease him about being a nerd instead of actually listening, and it's just a joke, but it's also kind of crushing.
he once got so emotional while reading the outsiders by s.e. hinton he had to lay down on the ground, unable to cry, for the rest of the evening.
the first time he takes freddie to an art gallery, he starts shaking and getting a little lightheaded thinking about helene and has to leave. he takes freddie to the zoo after that instead.
dissociates and over exercises to cope with stuff after getting sober.
as he gets older, he starts looking more and more like frank. he has a whole crisis over it in his late thirties/early forties. it involves a drastic hairstyle change and a long "have i turned into my father?" breakdown.
becomes the least connected of the siblings after they all disperse. he's so busy and overwhelmed trying to raise a stable, healthy, happy family that one day he looks up, and his siblings are all gone and grown up and don't need him anymore. there's so much he's lost.
48. After awhile, do you think people got to Ian and Mickey for relationship advice? (Gallaghers / friends / franny )
49. Gallaghers post canon: Does Lip go back to school/ gets a profession? Do all of them talk to Fiona? What happened with Debbie and Heidi/ Sandy? Franny? Does Carl open the cop bar/ stays a cop? Does Liam live with Lip and Tami? How does he deal with Franks death?

48. After awhile, do you think people got to Ian and Mickey for relationship advice?
I think they do. Based on the fact that Ian was the first Gallagher to get married and stay married, and the fact that he got married to Mickey of all people, I think people look at them as a case of actual true love and a successful relationship. They truly have been through hell and made it through to the other side, and I think the people around them recognize this.
Mickey is for sure brutally honest about relationships being hard work, whilst I think Ian sugarcoats it a bit more, especially to younger kids like Franny. It's like Ian will be like "as long as you love each other, everything will be fine" I think Mickey will be like "fuck that, shit's hard. shit's complicated and frustrating and hard fucking work, but if you really love each other all 'a that will be worth it"
They really do give great, honest advice, but they're also the first people to call shit out the way they see it. For example, if Debbie comes to them ranting and being unreasonable about her relationships, whatever they may be, Ian is the first person to call her on her shit. Mickey will straight up be like "Debs, listen, it's not gonna happen" and Ian will just nod and add "yeah, Debs, you're reading way too much into something that isn't there."

I don't think Lip ever goes back to school full time, but I could see him taking evening classes just because he misses learning. I think he's most content using his hands though, so I could see him being a handyman or doing minor repairs for people.
I think they all keep in contact with Fiona, though some people more than others. I think Lip and Ian both talk to her fairly often, as they were always the closest growing up, but I could also see Debbie getting over her abandonment issues and forgive Fiona for leaving when she did and calling her every once in a while just to catch up. I think Carl texts Fiona a lot, but I don't think he calls as much as the others. I can also see Liam taking a long time to come around to forgiving Fiona for leaving, but eventually texting her and keeping in touch. I also think Liam lives with Lip and Tami and that they end up his legal guardians after Frank's death.
Other than that I don't think I can imagine much more for them, because they're still growing and settling into themselves. They're still so fluid in my mind, and I can't really imagine much more for them. They're just living their lives, y'know.
