one thing i think shameless did well is hammering in the fact that addiction can be an explanation but is not always an excuse for behaviors. an example of this is lip vs frank. how lip did hurt people yet continues to try his best to recover and give a good life for his kid. the exact opposite can be said about frank who constantly abuses his kids and has only “tried” to be sober when it directly benefited him and has never once tried to apologize or make up for his behaviors. yet for some reason too many people try to excuse frank by saying “he’s a struggling alcoholic.” and that he really did care for his kids deep down. on the opposite end of the spectrum we have people demonizing lip and victim blaming him and not knowing that alcoholism is a disease and as if he had complete control when he was spiraling and actively being taken advantage of by two professors with no support system. yall rlly missed big nuances of the show and its very sad to see considering these are real things real ppl go thru.
gallagher next door | lip gallagher
lip learns an interesting fact about you and has to change it. ─ 1.43k ─ nsfw content, minors dni! (fem/afab!reader, 'angel', 'honey', other pet names used, oral - f recieving, unwrapped p in v, fingering, friends to lovers, no use of y/n)
Lip Gallagher’s throwing pebbles at your window, and it doesn't surprise you.
Lip had been your best friend for a few years now. He was the boy you went to for dating advice, you were the one he went to for his crazy family dramas and advice on what to do most of the time. You two were each other’s soulmate, as people joked.
Ever since you moved to Chicago nearly sixteen years ago and met Lip as the boy next door, you knew there was something unique about him. Something that drew you to him naturally.
remember when fiona punched her dead mom’s corpse at the funeral damn that was crazy
shameless deleted scenes
mickey in mexico
not willam belli on shameless LOL
mickey going back to his cell after ian and svetlana's visit
i like this scene a lot and wish they hadn't cut it. the music (which i LOVE) paired with mickey's bubbling rage/disappointment/hurt over ian's hesitation to wait for him is *chef's kiss*
ian and mickey have sex + dream sequence
HELP?!?! the dream sequence is jarring but a great representation of ian's current mental state.
ian visits the LGBTQIA college group
this breaks my heart. being a janitor is one of the lowest points of ian's life and this scene hammers it home. i'm pretty sure ian was thinking of jumping off the bridge in the scene where the car crash happens and he gets saved by the firemen. his janitor arc also reminds me of mandy working in the diner, with lip "moving on up" while they get left behind :/ oh how the turntables by the end of the show lol. (also hello jim from OFMD)
ian and frank meet at a gay bar
i always wondered why ian and frank never had much scenes together. i really wish they had kept this.
ian and linda
linda is flawed but i feel so much for her in this scene. kash sucks and ian is a sweetheart. it's a bittersweet sendoff to her character.
ian asks for svetlana's services
yeah no.
season 6 deleted scenes
i feel like they should have kept EVERYTHING in this.
After nine months of this obsession, I've decided that Shameless is the show that happens when the best casting department and the best costume/props department in the business get together with a creator with a sincere (if mildly fucked up) vision and then hire a bunch of writers of varying ability who don't know how to use a spreadsheet to save their lives.
Season 4 happened when the best coffee shop in the world opened next door.
The coffee shop closed towards the end of writing season 5, but the chain had an outlet a little further away so they could occasionally get delivery. That shut too at the end of season 7.
in my mind ian and mickey have more growth to do post canon. i would love to see mickey getting more of what he needs from ian. mickey is more closed off and petulant and less directly communicative in s11 than s5 because he's still burned by ian not meeting him where he was at repeatedly after going through So Much personal development by s5, of which ian was a major catalyst. (part of this is also a shift in his communication style to being kinda benevolently manipulative to meet ian where he's at s11).
do i sound totally off the wall if i say that mickey is significantly more emotionally intelligent than ian, though doesn't necessarily have all the tools to articulate those emotions to someone like adult ian, and is kinda floundering a bit
my aesthetic is Shameless doing these kind of shots:
