My dad is the kind of person who doesn't really find much value or entertainment in media unless it is at least loosely based on a "true story." So he wasn't all that interested when we first got Netflix, but he's since discovered many documentaries and has been watching them left and right.

Anyway, the other day, he said to me, "By the way, I just wanted to apologize for letting your mother endanger you at 5 years old."

"...What?"

"At SeaWorld."

"Ohhh..."

Backstory: When our family went on our first proper summer vacation in 1999, we went to San Antonio. My mother very emphatically insisted that I would make a great child volunteer during the orca show, so, long story short, I have a very distinct memory of standing on the platform and tossing dead fish out of a bucket into Shamoo's mouth. Obviously, since then, this memory has... acquired a different lens... but it also is still one of the coolest things I've ever done-- tossing dead fish into the gaping jaws of one of the ocean's most dangerous predators, made even more dangerous by captivity. Yeah...

"I mean, I don't really think I was in that much danger... He was in the water, and I was standing above the pool, so..."

"No, I mean when they had him up on the ledge and you got to pet him."

"...I GOT TO PET SHAMOO????"
