I’m getting in the mood for spring so I drew some flower fairies 🌷💕 I referenced some photos I took during tulip time in Holland, Michigan. I can’t wait to go see the tulips again this year! 😊

i used mostly prismacolor premier, and did some details with faber castell polychromos and caran d’ache luminance. it ended up more muddy looking than i’d like.. probably bc i did too many layers. anyway! based on my photos app usage i’d say this took a little over 25 hours total. i’m so happy to be done with this finally!!

if you’re wondering how to smooth out the grainy look, i used a colorless blender pencil (caran d’ache, it’s really good) but there are lots of other things you can use, like odorless mineral spirits, rubbing alcohol, burnishing, etc. it’s also a good idea to always keep your pencils sharp so they can get deeper into the grain of the paper. some techniques, like burnishing, are more likely to create a wax bloom (overly shiny/hazy look) but you can look up ways to prevent or reduce that, like fixatifs or rubbing with cloths.
