Passer l’été: Shana
Shana and Zain were on their way to the beach for a summer vacation. At last, her much awaited holiday with her beloved husband arrived. As soon as they set their feet to the beach resort, Shana couldn’t contain her smile. The scent of the wind, the ruffling of soft waves, and the paradise-like scenery got her even more excited. She turned her face to her husband smiling, “Let’s enjoy this vacation, okay?” Then she wrapped her arms around his arm and leaned a bit.
After that, they went straight to the hotel room to drop their luggage. Shana didn’t waste time and went to the bathroom to change into summer dress. Underneath her long, white dress, was the swimsuit she bought last week. She went outside the bathroom and called out to Zain.
“Uhm… Zain… I want to go outside,… with you.” She mumbled. She knew that they just arrived from their long travel, and she was feeling tired as well. But she wanted to seize every moment. She looked up to him waiting for a response. “But if you’re still tired,… I still can wait later.”
"No, if you want we can go now." He smiled, finding her eagerness adorable. "Give me a moment," he requested as he looked through his suitcase for his swim suit. He removed his jacket, placing it on the back of a chair before going to work on his buttons. "Do you have everything you need?" he asked removing his articles of clothing one at a time, placing them on top of his suitcase to attend to later.
Having finished putting on his swim trunks, he easily found his towel and sunblock as well as a pair of glasses. “I am a bit hungry,” he admitted, “but it can wait for a couple of hours. Ready?”
She jumped into his arms, “Thank you, Zain!!! I’m so happy.” Shana rummaged her bag to get the things she needed. “Yeah, I’ve got everythihg.” she answered. Then she saw Zain getting changed. She caught herself staring at his toned muscles then suddenly felt embarrassed.
Her cheeks were still red when Zain asked her if she was ready. She nodded. Then she remembered that she made something back in the palace. “Zain. I made sandwiches! We can eat at the beach.”
Outside, they laid their blanket. Shana opened the lunch box she made. “Here.” She was happy that she could finally had time with him. Staring at nowhere, something caught her attention. A little girl running, but fell and scraped her knee. She ran over the child and helped her to get up. The father and mother arrived asking if she was okay. The child was crying hard not because she fell down but because the necklaces she made were broken.
“I made it for you Mommy, Daddy.” The girl said, sobbing.
The parents were moved. “Thank you! Papa and Mama will help you fix it. So don’t cry anymore, okay?”
The child managed to stop her tears. And before the family left, they thanked Shana for helping the child.
Left alone with Zain, she smiled. “What a cute girl… She is so sweet. I wish my child will also be like that.” Then she realized what she just said and her face turned bright red. “Ah! Zain! I don’t mean anything by that!”
Zain waited by their spot, watching the interaction between Shana and the little girl. He could barely make out their conversation but from what he did, he wondered briefly what sort of necklace she was making. He also noticed that her parents seemed more relieved to see the little girl was fine than the little girl at the knowledge that her necklace could be fixed. A feeling that only parents can feel, it would seem.
He watched the family go, wondering if he would ever know that feeling. Theo often said he was too strict too feel anything too complicated. Hmph.
Zain turned his head as Shana began speaking to him. “You don’t?” he asked, unsure what to make of her words.
Shana stared at him for a moment, thinking if she should really say what was on her mind but decided to do so. She shook her head, “No… I want to… It’s just, I am too embarrassed by my sudden comment. But watching the family made my heart really warm. Just child your own daughter making something for you like the shell necklace.” Her words were very sincere but she didn’t know what would Zain think about that. She was scared to ask him but she still wanted to know. “How about you, Zain?” She looked up at him waiting for his response.
They spent the whole day in the beach. Swimming, walking by the shore and just relaxing on their beach blanket. After they ate dinner at the beach restaurant, they went back to their hotel room. As soon as they entered the room, Shana ran to the bed and lay down. “Fwahhh… Sooo tired… But it was really fun, Zain.”
After relaxing for a bit, she went over to Zain and handed something. “Here. I got this for you, Zain. You’re always in suit so I don’t think an informal bracelet or necklace will go along with that… I hope you find it useful.” Then he tugged his shirt, averting his eyes from him… “Zain?… About our talk later… I… I really want to have a baby with you now.” Her cheeks were flushed from embarrassment but she was glad she finally said it. “I want to bear your child, Zain.”
“You did not give me a chance to respond last time,” he said placing his hand over hers. He gave her soft hand a small squeeze, her wedding band a cool contrast to her warmth. Taking her chin with his free hand, he lifted her head until her gaze locked with his, her dazzling eyes shining as beautiful as ever. “I would love to have a daughter to make me sea shell necklaces,” his breath tickled her lips before he sealed the space between them. He kissed her softly, tenderly. “I want to make a baby with you too,” he whispered before resuming the kiss, not waiting long to deepen it. He wrapped his arms around her waist, slowly walking her backwards until the back of her legs hit the edge of the bed. As the kiss turned more passionate, more eager, he lowered her onto the bed where he straddled her and leaned forward on his elbows, careful not to put his entire weight on her.
His palms moved up and down her body, appreciating every soft curve, as his nose lightly nuzzled her neck. “You smell so sweet,” he told her and then lightly flicked his tongue across her skin as if to taste that sweetness. He spoke to her endearingly, the sweet words coming to mind easily as she yielded to his caresses, her responses adorable and alluring all at once. “Shana,” he called her name as he began undressing her, requesting that she lift her hips for him. “I love you.”
