Ernest Hemingway is regarded as one of the world’s greatest writers. After doing some nerdy reading level analysis, I now respect him even more.
Anon asked:
Do you think one can still be a good author even when not using difficult and extravagant words like maybe Tolkien and Martin do? I'd describe my writing as "easy-readable" but detailed. I'm scared it's not good enough?
I’m going to flat out mangle quote this brilliant article because it has awesome statistics and facts, while all I have are emotional rambles:
“We’re trained to assume that writing with a higher reading level is better writing. But data shows the opposite: lower reading level often correlates with commercial popularity and in many cases, how good we think a writer is.”
So keep writing in your easy-to-read style, anon. You’re doing just fine.
