Something only a few people were just recently bringing up and adgitating him about.
A response is made, about as publicly as possible detailing his side of the story for everyone to read. Yes, including all of those who didn’t know or remember so this comes to them without context and out of the blue.
Effectively slandering his own name to the public eye for a while. But being such a great person, eventually winning their trust back.
