adventures for your soul- chapter 1
Sooo I am reading this book called Adventures for your Soul by Shannon Kaiser. It’s basically a little get-your-life-together book. So far the author has talked about her life and her experiences, explaining that she did everything in this book to reach her goal of self acceptance and happiness. She swears that if readers follow everything she says in the book, we will reach our goals as well. Since I am on an eight week break from school and I am pretty god damned depressed and unmotivated, I am giving it a shot.
She has writing prompts in each chapter, here’s the first one.
Joy journal freewrite: Write your blockbuster hit
1. Q: If your life were a movie, and you were the leading character, how would you want to be portrayed? A: I would want to be portrayed as a kind, funny, friendly, witty, confident, mysterious, outgoing, loving, gypsy soul. I want to be known as a great hair stylist. Someone who is always traveling. Well respected. Someone whose business is not all over the place.
2. Q: If all circumstances allowed (you had enough time and money), what would you really want to do? How would your movie play out? A: I would want to live alone, in the mountains, near a body of water and not too far from a big city. I would like to travel for work, whether I was doing hair or a flight attendant.
3. Q: What is your happy ending? What desires are in your heart that want to be freed? A: I want to be confident in my own skin, clothes on or off, make up or no make up. I want to not let my fear/ anxiety hold me back. I want to trust people. I want to be loved the way I love. I want to travel. I want to be motivated.
4: Q: Where does your story take place? What location? What is the environment like? A: Somewhere in the mountains. Not many neighbors. The environment is peaceful, non chaotic, quiet, and green. Trails and a body of water near by.
5. Q: What does your ideal life look like? A: My ideal life would look like me being happy. No matter where I am at, who I am with, what I look like. internal happiness and peace is my ultimate goal.
Joy journal freewrite: Press play
1. Q: How can you put your dream into action? A: The first and most important step towards putting my dream into action is b believing that it is for me and it is achievable. This entails understanding that nothing will happen overnight and that there will be bumps in the road, but I must keep believing. The next thing I need to do is repeat what I want to myself every day and do something that works toward reaching that dream every day. I need to work a lot, save money, research Nevada (cities, airports, weather), research state of Nevada cosmetology license rules. I need to be okay with being alone.
2. Q: What steps can you do to press play on your dream life? A: The first and only step I can take until about May (hopefully sooner, but because of school) would be saving money and doing research. I could even visit Nevada and check out some of the places after I research.
3. Q: Where do you feel like you are settling or working really hard to make something happen? Can you take a more compassionate or playful approach? A: I am settling in the apartment where I live with my ex. I am here because it is closer to school, closer to the freeway, closer to stores. But I am not mentally okay here. I wake up angry/ irritated/ annoyed/ impatient when I have to move around him in the morning. His negative energy weighs me down in all areas as soon as I get up and I need to move out. It is comfortable here because this is my home, all my stuff is here, this was my dream, but the reality is that I am unhappy and I need to stop being complacent if I ever want things to change. Something else I am working really hard at is to get through school. I am working hard but at the same time just floating through the motions. I can definitely take a more compassionate/ playful approach by really putting my all into it. I can watch videos and read outside of school to have a deeper understanding of haircuts/ color theory, and find new things to be eager to try on clients/ models.
