a good example of the difference between Dee and Dennis Reynolds is in "Mac Is a Serial Killer" when Dennis's murderer persona is a painter who can gain access to people's houses and earns their trust by working with them and Dee's is just a fuckin psycho clown
like Dennis spends so much time on "sophisticated" manipulation that, yeah, gets the job done, but it takes a while. Dee goes straight for the jugular. and when she does put in the effort to manipulate someone, she doesn't usually use it to get something lame like thin mints or dates. she uses it to absolutely destroy someone. Dennis could never.
you know what’s really funny is how in “the gang misses the boat” everyone in the beginning is being weird but not bad, not harmful, and then dennis straight up drives the range rover into the river, and then in the very next scene he’s like “we have ALL gotten so weird!” like dennis you just drove yourself and your friends into a river with complete confidence that your car was designed for this kind of activity, and somehow that’s EVERYONE’S fault?! dee just wore a fake mustache! mac was only jamming to hollaback girl! frank and charlie were eating worms, which is gross but they weren’t hurting anyone! YOU! DROVE! INTO! A! RIVER!
ive never actually watched an episode of the netflix queer eye...i watched the original but i haven’t seen the newer version (and i don’t think i will, nothing against it i just don’t like that genre of tv) but from what i can gather, this is who they are and their areas of expertise:
jonathan van ness: hair, makeup, soundbites, improvised songs
tan france: fashion, facial expressions
antoni: cooking, refers to foods as singular, i.e., “a mac and cheese”
karamo: the soul surgeon (you know when the performance artist marina abromavich did that performance where she just sat across from people one-by-one, and she stared at them for a while, and each person would inevitably break down crying? that’s what karamo does, except instead of being performative and uncomfortable he does it with all the love and tenderness in the world)
another one who is named something like bobby i think: i don’t know what he does but he seems nice
