Today in Dance History!
A day like today, March 11, 1822, Dancer and Choreographer Marius Petipa was born in Marseilles. Petipa was the creative force behind Swan Lake (1890) and Sleeping Beauty (created with Ivanov in 1895). He is considered one of the most influential figures on Russian ballet during the 19th century.
Marious Petipas produced approximately fifty ballets including: La Fille du Pharaon (1862), Don Quixote (1869), Les Bandits (1875), Cinderella (1893, music Baron Shell), Les Millions d’Arlequin (1900), The Magic Mirror (his last ballet, 1903), among many others.
