Happy Father’s Day!

A father’s care is important in life. Father’s provide, teach, and exemplify hard work. They help to raise the next generation to give of themselves and do the best they can. Any man can be a fatherly figure and inspire good in others.

I am thankful to my father who has shown me how to work hard and to serve others. He has been a strength in my life.

I am grateful for other friends in my life who likewise encourage good and help me to do my best.

I am grateful to my Heavenly Father for His gift of fathers. My gift to Christ this week is this drawing to honor fathers.

Mary Anointing the Feet of Christ

Week 4 of 33 weeks of Christmas

“ Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair...”

~ John 12:3, KJV Bible

There are 29 more weeks until Christmas! As the Little Drummer Boy did, I am using my talents to give a gift to Christ each week until Christmas. (Of course it can continue afterward.)

My gift this week is this illustration of Mary Anointing the feet of Jesus Christ. This act she gave to Christ was very significant for her. She recognized the sacrifice Christ would make and anointed him in honor of it. 

Her gift shares the light of Christ with us. I hope my gifts do likewise.

You can likewise share His light with others. Look for ways you can use your talents and gifts to serve others and spread good and Light.

The Widow’s Mite

“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

“And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

“For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”

The Gift of a Little Drummer Boy (read more)

The Little Drummer Boy gave the new born Christ a gift of his music—a gift of what he had. It was not a big gift, but it was a meaningful one.

The widow in this story gave what she had. It was not much, but it was important and meaningful. Because it was all she had, it was far more than the large donations from the rich.

We likewise can give what we have.

My gift this week is this drawing of this faithful act from this widow in giving all she had.

Mothers are an important part of life. Mothers love, nurture, and care. They raise the next generation and inspire children to become their best selves. Mothers do not have to be biological. Any woman can be a motherly figure to others. I am grateful to my mother who has taught me so much and helped me become who I am today. I am also grateful for the many friends in my life who have been encouraging examples of womanhood. I am grateful to the Lord for His gift of mothers. Here is my gift to him for the week (read next section): using my gift of art to honor motherhood.

33 Weeks until Christmas!

Yesterday I was listening to For King and Country's version of "The Little Drummer Boy". The lines, "I have no gift to bring... that's fit to give a king. ... Shall I play for you... on my drum?" got me thinking. We often do not have gifts "fit to give a king", but our gifts do not have to be gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The gifts we can give can be simple, but meaningful uses of the talents the Lord has given us.

A couple weeks ago I read Moroni chapter 6. Verse 9 says, "... for as the power of the Holy Ghost led them whether to preach, or to exhort, or to pray, or to supplicate, or to sing, even so it was done" and "or to sing" stood out to me. The Spirit inspires us to do many different things to praise the Lord and to spread His good works. It can be by singing, drawing, writing, gardening, whatever your heart so desires that is good.

Do not think your talents and small acts are insignificant. We can use them to do good. The Lord uses small works to bring about great things. "...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass..." ~Alma 37:6

This got me thinking. What is something I can do to be a Birthday/Christmas gift to Jesus Christ? It know it is a while before Christmas, but it is always a good time to celebrate His life! I did find that there are 33 Sundays (including today) before Christmas. That is one week for each year of Christ's life in mortality. This got me thinking further. I could give a gift each week until Christmas.

I felt inspired to share this, and to invite others to join in. I encourage you to find some way to use the talents you have to share the Love of God and to praise Him. It can be in whatever way you feel inspired. It could be creating a piece of art, writing a poem or song, finding someone to serve, etc. I feel mine will vary each week, depending on what opportunities arise.

If you feel the desire, you can share your gift of the week with others. I understand that some will be personal, so do not feel like you have to share with others, but maybe write it in a journal. I may not post something each week, but I will share what the Spirit inspires me to. 

The Lord has given us special gifts and talents to spread light to the world. That can be our gift to Him.
