Larp Shark Weapons designs
Shield: Leatherback Turtle Shell as the body of the shield. It will be carved and sculpted with a bit of a design, and a large carcharihinus style tooth will be sculpted to look like it was attached to the shield. (make it detachable? It could be a secondary small shield) (visuals: GW shark tooth shield affixed to a leatherback shell)
I’m thinking some type of bullkelp design around the rim of the shield. The specific carvings in the shell tend to be indicative of the tribe and or region the shield was created in.
It will be large enough that the bottom half will have some netting across the inside as storage space. And also there will be small fasteners for tiny tooth daggers
Daggers: Small Ginglymostoma cirratum teeth with hilts, maybe with a pearl adornment on the end of the hilt. small enough to palm effectively. (no-core daggers)
Sword: Very large, long Carcharias taurus tooth with the blade being the crown/blade of the tooth, the guard being the compressed root, with two smaller side cusps. The hilt would be wrapped in soft brown leather. Not sure on a decorative pommel or not....
Lore regarding the weapons: These are not metal fashioned to look like teeth and shells, no.
It’s a real turtle shell - was it scavenged or was the animal killed for that purpose? Surely no life is wasted by the denizens of the Kelp Beds but I’m not sure how they would go about getting that kind of material. It was probably killed for food and the shell re-purposed - there’s no reason the animal would be endangered in a fantasy realm. Commonly worn over the back as a pack/armor.
The teeth? The carcharihinus one on the shield is actually great, great, ..., great grandma’s incisor - “oh, yeah, she was a big ol’ lady, for sure,” *pause* “Shark, you’re shitting us, right?” “Hmm? No?”
*holds up daggers* “These are my baby teeth,” *big grin*
The sword itself is one of their own teeth. They created it after their first real fight that could have ended in death if they’d lost. “The tooth that saved you,” these types of swords are known as in the tribe. Possible title: ej-b’i ([y]e-je-b'i) /yeh -jeh-b’ee/ (ej = tooth, -b’i is derives instrumentals from intransitives - bad grammar but fun to say). To create the sword they must perform a ritual involving one of their teeth (the one lost in the battle as close to when they won, but not after, as possible), and their blood. It is a ritually bonded weapon, as well as being made from their actual body - this means that they could be used as a focus or anything that say, hair or blood in general could be used for in a ritual.
If the sword (the tooth) ever breaks it’s a bad omen that one’s luck is running out. To replace the tooth they must find a NEW foe - one they’ve never battled before, and best it in combat. It doesn’t need to be single combat, but if there was no chance of dying in the fight, then the new sword will be said to fail the warrior the next time their life is in jeopardy - it will “flinch” in the face of danger.
Not all members of the tribe will have a Tooth Blade, though baby tooth daggers are common and don’t hold as much significance outside of nostalgia (baby teeth daggers are not a ritually created item - they’re literally just the teeth bound with cord to a hilt). There isn’t so much of a stigma against using metal weapons as they tend to rust in salt water. It IS looked upon with a bit of condescension - if you never fully put yourself on the line, are you ever in danger, and have you truly earned your merits?
This heavily implies that the humanoid forms of these characters is not their ‘true’ form, but it could also clearly be a legend or practical joke on player characters.
