#1995 #flashback True Story... My first feature (small but huge to me) in Essence Mag happened like this. My older brother (Daryl Williams) was the #headchef of the #sharkbar. The Shark Bar was the hottest soul food restaurant 🔥, the food was so delicious (their mac and cheese was the truth truth). Sunday brunch was everything. People came to be seen and to see who they could see (I fell into the last category 👀). It was the creme de la creme of the Black elite- actors, models, singers, editors, writers, etc were always there. They would most definitely ask for my brother Daryl. He knew everybody including #susantaylor- a regular there. _______ I’m chilling at home and the phone rings. My brother on the other end says “Debra, I want you to say hello to someone.” That, someone, was Susan Taylor #editor of Essence Magazine. I was floored right there on the phone. She asked me to send her my work, I did and that’s how I got my #1st #feature in Essence Mag. #thosewerethedays #redcreativeartsalon _______ Hair: Debra Hare-Bey, @_omhhredroom formerly, Red Creative Art Salon _______ #618vanderbiltave #brooklyn #parkslope #braids #naturalhair #twist #geniloks #nulocs #yarnbraids #somuchfun @erikaalexanderthegreat @diannereeves @iamsusanltaylor @essence @_omhhredroom (at Prospect Heights, Brooklyn) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-YhSSOhFdX/?igshid=1d1xx94z4v251
