hiii could you maybe share your setting you use to sharpen gifs? They look so good!

hi! thank u for ur kind words! i really don't do anything differently than many other gifmakers, but this is the steps that i use: [x]. i also really think it's the video quality that makes a huge difference, so i try to use 2160p & if i can only find a 1080p vid, then i'll look for the one with the largest file size/bitrate. i also took some screenshots just in case that would be helpful, too. =D

may i ask what sharpening and save settings you used for your gifset for episode one of the last of us season two? the one that was side by side with the scenes at the dance from the game? they’re so gorgeous and i cannot for the life of me figure out how to sharpen that show without it looking horrid.

sometimes i add a second sharpening on top with these settings (i didn't do it for that gifset you mentioned though)

i've been playing around recently so it would either be the settings from this wonderful tutorial or using high pass from this mini tutorial it really has depended on the files i have and what i remember to do when i'm making them!

what is the gif sharpening action u use lately?

hi there! it’s one i made a while ago that kinda make the whole gif process for me after i crop, but the settings for the sharpening is the same as almost everyone

if you use DICOM files

if you use Load Files into Stack

explaining the action process

instead of making all manually, the action does all for me:

convert timeline

make frames from layers select all frames

set current animation frame (0.05) select all layers

convert frame animation

convert to smart object

and then the sharpening part, it’s the same process as almost everyone: 

smart sharpen with this settings

one special thing about that action is that if i save the gif just after i sharpened using the method convert to smart object, the gif speed goes from 0.05 to 0.07 (don’t ask me why, photoshop is a b*tch). so, to make things like they were, in the same action after i sharpened, i kinda make the gif process again, but this time fixing the speed:

make layers from frames

convert timeline

make frames from layers delete current layer, delete current animation frame, select all frames

set current animation frame (0.05) select all layers

set current animation (foverer)

and the action ends. this is a print of what it looks like. you only play it once, and the action does all of this for you!

important

the settings “amount 500, radius 0.3, remove gaussian blur, more accurate” works better on photoshop cs5, if you use cs6+ i recommend this action (v3 & v4), it’s the closest match i found and they use the same process as i do

do you guys have any tips on sharpening your screencaps? i've just begun using photoshop so i'm not entirely sure what i'm doing and a lot of the screencaps from season 2 of TVD get a little blurry when i try to mess with the brightness / contrast.

I have that problem a lot when it comes to TVD actually. I find it gets a little better when I make them smaller (100x100 at the smallest) and use my sharpening settings I always do. I use smart sharpen at settings like this:

hello. sorry to bother you but may i ask which sharpening action do you use and how do you use it? your gifs are always stunning. thank you so much.

My action is kind of weird because I combined two together so it would convert it back to frames from timeline, but basically I crop, image size, convert to timeline, make two blank layers (so the top layer is ‘Layer 2′), select them all starting from Layer 2, convert to smart object, and then I apply the action, which will sharpen it and make it frames again (but with a blank frame you have to delete).

assuming u mean my sharpening settings, i do the majority of it in vapoursynth and adjust it based on the quality of the video i’m giffing! i think my ps sharpening setting is pretty basic?? i’m not too confident in it, since i’m still learning, but hope this helped !! (i usually sharpen using these settings twice !!)
