The Shaskeen Pub In Review
Last night was the first time I had been at The Shaskeen since the political drama few a months back. I also had improv on Wednesday nights for a while anyway so that made it tough to get back there.
The show starts at 9:00 PM and at 8:50 PM there was no audience yet. I was worried because I was taking the bullet (going first) and no audience is daunting but at 9:00 PM 25+ people wandered in. It was a good crowd. I felt like I did a really good job of making eye contact with them; they were reacting and laughing and I felt like I had a connection with them. Very pleased overall.
Got to meet a few comics I haven’t met yet. That’s always fun. Talked to headliner Adam Langlois a bit about shows up here and he asked if I go to Boston much. He seems like a good egg. Another comic who also books some shows said he’d like to use me (book me) on some upcoming dates. This offer came after he said he was surprised by how funny I was and by my stage presence. (Thanks dude, happy to surprise you I guess.) It may not lead to anything but it was nice to hear regardless.
I’m looking forward to being back there on October 16th!
Shaskeen In Review
The Shaskeen was fun last night. I felt a little extra pressure to do well because I had posted on Facebook that I got the weekly hosting position at Headliners Comedy Club. A lot of people saw the post and congratulated me on the gig. That felt nice. For my set, I did mostly newer stuff that I had only tried once before. I really focused on not over thinking it and getting up there under-prepared kind of forces me to feel my way through it.
Comedian Jenny Zigrino (Jenny Z) asked me if I wanted to get dinner before the show which we did. She's been someone I've kind of looked up to for a while so it was nice to hangout and talk comedy and also some non-comedy. I think we might be friends now.
