Mina’s face shifted as she looked over at Diana playing on her phone.

“Gosh, your nose is even more sensitive than mine, are you sure you don’t want to take a few steps back? I feel awful doing this right next to you...”

She shook her head as she ashed her cigarette careful to keep it as far from Diana as she could manage.

“It’s not so much a choice at this point as it is an addiction, but that’s what learning behaviors from shitty parenting gets you. I don’t even like it, really. I want to quit before I get my pro license... Don’t wanna risk being a bad influence on any kids.”

Mina’s smile never left her face as Diana grabbed her hand, her grip strong and firm. Mina knew she was fairly strong naturally but her method for winning arm wrestling was fool proof.

“On three, then. One... Twoooo...” Mina dragged out the countdown as long as possible, her strategy ready in her mind,

A silent sigh of relief left Mina as it seemed like she’d gotten what she wanted without looking weird.

Until Diana reminded her of a certain side effect of her quirk.

Crap. Stupid chemosignals or whatever she called them. Just... Play dumb, you’re good at that!

Mina didn’t do jealousy.

She was a very open and affectionate person so seeing her friends give affection to each other usually made her happy. But something about seeing Diana being so... friendly with Ochako brought up an undeniably ugly feeling in her stomach. Maybe it was just because Diana had told her she didn’t really hang out with other girls and that had made Mina feel special.

Yeah, that was probably it.

Putting on a big smile and swallowing around the ugly lump in her throat, Mina walked over to their conversation and tapped Diana on the shoulder.

“Hey! We were still going to...” Shit. She didn’t come up with any fake plans. “... Watch a movie tonight?”

It wasn’t often that Mina found herself alone on the roof for nights like this. She was almost always accompanied by Kirishima for their frowned-upon stress relief.

Which was probably how she’d ended up here with just one cigarette and a dead lighter.

“Shit...”

Holding the cigarette between her teeth as she pointlessly tried to click the lighter to life a few more times, she didn’t even hear the door behind her open and close; unaware of her friend’s approach until an arm was draped around her.

Her posture stiffened until she turned and saw she was joined by Diana and not in fact by someone who would surely scold her for her bad habit. She was even more grateful as the fox-like girl pulled out a lighter and ignited the tip of her cigarette.

Careful to blow the smoke away from Diana, Mina nodded as she sheepishly thanked her.

“Thanks... Sorry, this is really gross. I’m trying to quit, I swear.”

"Mina! Arm wrestle me! I wanna see the Alien Queen's strength!" Diana cheered as she smiled at her new friend with a giant grin. (Do I regret this? Not one bit.)

Mina gave a confident smirk as Diana offered up her challenge. Propping her elbow up on the table in front of her, Mina shook her head.

“Sure, I’ll arm wrestle you. But I gotta warn you, I never lose.”
