crk au ramble: A Different Kind of Parasite / False Soul Jam AU

So a good chunk of plot centers around these guys called Parasites or False Soul Jams. What are Parasites / False Soul Jams? Short answer: malformed, relatively pathetic, symbiote-like Soul Jams.

Long Answer:

When Silent Salt Cookie and Elder Faerie Cookie sought to split the corrupted Soul Jams from what little of their Lights remained untouched, they planned for it to be a one time event: that it would happen five times and never again.

They were right in that regard: they managed to split 5 Pristine Soul Jams into 10 Soul Jams without any flaws or shatters. Apathy and Resolution, Abundance and Destruction, Truth and Deceit, Passion and Sloth, and Freedom and Silence,

all intact,

able to generate their own magic,

able to heal any injuries they sustained and shed that damage in the form of tiny fragments of their respective Light.

However, they did fail to account for (or even didn't know) that

When a Soul Jam is so much as jostled, they will shed off their Light.

Light when shed doesn't just go away, it persists.

Light will eventually congregate together, and may sweep up some Life Powder on the way.

And if the circumstances are right, the magic will transition into a living creature in the form of a crystalline little plant... that hatches a worm... that crawls into a host and eventually turns into a tiny crystal with an eye and a mind of their own, stuck with fragmented memories of what they once were, the knowledge (or in some cases, not) that they can never reach that peak ever again, and the realization that they must now cope with the terrible hand they were dealt.

But at least they get the ability to transform their host's body like the Venom symbiote!

So, I've been thinking a bit about something.

Behind the scenes and something I've been mostly discussing with really close friends, I've been working on the concept for a Dreams Of An Insominiac fan game featuring the veldigun ocs that I created years ago, and plan on making a demo for it as my final project for my animation course.

Every since late 2024, I've been working on the designs on characters and finally starting to finalize them around the start of the year, I got a pretty clear idea of the gameplay, I've got the layout for the level that'd be featured in the demo, I got mechanics, storyline for the characters, I even ended up signing up to a course on game design to suplemment what I learn on my college course itself.

But I've been wondering about the rewrite. Since DOAI will be a more surreal experience, I'm kinda worried about my game's story that's a lot more grounded (at least, how grounded a story about monsters that eat people's mind can get.) The plan was always for it to be a parallel story that takes place in a whole new city with purely original characters center stage, but the setup was still dependent on the main series and there are characters connected it. And I've been lost on what to do with it.

If the definitive version of DOAI does come out before I start developing, I'll probably have to change a lot of I had planned, tho I prefer this outcome to it releasing after the demo is done. There's always the option to make a stand alone thing, but I don't want to. I want this game to be a love letter to a project that has inspired me for so many years. These characters came from my love for the ideas and concepts this series has presented and I don't want to sacrifice that.

Idk, maybe I'm overthinking it. I've been silent about this project for so long that I might've just wanted an excuse to finally talk about it lol.

I'm obsessed with Geta and Caracalla because even if you disregard the potential for a ship (even though it's practically canon) they've got such a fascinating dynamic.

They're obsessed with each other and codependent but they fight frequently. They argue over who's the oldest and thus ought to be the true emperor but they also rule together and generally agree with/build off of each other's ideas. Caracalla is more visibly insane but Geta was never mentally/emotionally stable either. Geta cared for his brother the entire time the disease progressed and tried to reason with him when he was attacked because it wasn't the first time it had happened. Caracalla wouldn't have killed him if it weren't for Macrinus because Gets knew exactly how to calm him down even amidst his own terror and panic. Caracalla didn't remember killing him.

and then if you add shipping into the equation it's even more insane. Cause there's a distinct level of trust you need to have there, a vulnerability you risk being exploited, and for all of Caracalla's moods and their historical counterparts hatred of each other they do trust each other.

I can barely articulate into words how much I love this freak. Like I find him so adorable and charming, and whenever I think the feeling is dying down, he pulls me back in with a force.

So, my sona and Lankmann have been dating for a day, and Lankmann wanted to propose (which of course I told him to do it lol).

I did the whole minigame and stuff, and it ends with both of them proposing to each other at the same time and straight up died right there.

Obsessed with the idea of carageta kissing as a means of communication rather than just lust. "I love you" "I'm sorry" "thank you" "please". That they can show each other their feelings more clearly than they can say them.
