Aidan purses his lips, sinking into a long silence. It’s difficult to say he even heard the question -- perhaps he had tuned it out. The only giveaway is how he shifts to rest his chin on one hand, while the other taps nervously against his leg.

“It’s easier for me to recognize something like that in someone else. I scarcely know what I’m doing to anyone I am important to. S’pose they’d be a better judge.”
